I have a cheap digital camera with flash which is around 3 years old, and has provided surprisingly good service, until a couple of weeks ago when I tried to switch it on, with freshly charged NI-MH batteries in. Instead of lighting up as normal, the screen on the back flickered briefly with just a pattern of random coloured lines, then went blank, and the green LED indicating 'on' remained lit; I switched the camera off again, the green LED went off, switched it on again, the same thing as before happened; I also noticed the blue LED on the lens side indicating that the flash is active lights up, but press the button, it doesen't take a picture (Flash doesent go off). In addition, all the time the camera is on, there is a very high-pitched whining sound, which sounds like the noise made by the 'ACCUMULATOR COIL' charging up to power the flash.

While it would obviously be cheaper for me to get a brand new, superior camera and throw the old one away, I'm very short of money at present, so i would like a shot at advice re. what might possibly be wrong, and opening it up and repairing it.
The 'coloured vertical streaks' on the screen when it briefly goes on suggest that either the screen itself has gone (Not worth replacement/repair), OR, maybe is there a loose connection/pin somewhere between the screen module and the circuit board, so that part of the 'imaging' signal is not getting to the screen, therefore just the coloured streaks?
The high-pitched whine and the blue LED suggest that the flash is charging up, but not firing for some reason. Again, a simple loose connection?

anyhelp would be much appreciated!

BTW, I spotted today another Digital Camera problems thread in the GENERAL Discussions Section; maybe people can help with that one as well: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=159040

to be honest most cameras electronics on the lower end are part and parcel of each other. I one thing is faulty and will effect other things. If the flash is down with power loss this could explain the loss of LED too at times.

I fear this maybe one of them things when it's best to get rid and get new, as you will be following faults till the cows come home.
