View Full Version : Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
It's looking intriguing here (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=56475).
In addition to newcomer Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp, the inevitable Helena Bonham Carter and the beautiful Ann Hathaway, there's Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, and Christopher Lee as the Jaberwock.
Release date: March 12th 2010. Can't wait to see this one.
Beakerzoid 22-06-2009, 19:23 I know exactly what you mean. I am firmly of the opinion that Burton should be given the wholesale rights to all classic children's literature, and make them all into films. Alice looks set to be a fantastic, star filled production, and the cast list is staggeringly brilliant (Fry as the Cheshire Cat in particular).
Comes out a week after my birthday, so will be nagging distributors for the possibility of an advance screening of this one :)
discodown 22-06-2009, 20:00 Lets be fair, this could go either way. It could be a dark, gothic, black comedic masterpiece or a complete mess.
I'm plumping for masterpiece
haddockman 23-06-2009, 08:52 Should be excellent! Burton's the ideal person to make this film.
NEKRO138 23-06-2009, 09:55 Yeah, I know he's everywhere at the moment but Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee is perfect.
The images from the film look very dark and creepy; exactly what you'd expect from a Tim Burton film really. I can't wait for it, it looks fantastic. I'm dying to see Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman as the Cheshire Cat and the Caterpillar, respectively.
Latest news here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8528820.stm)is that Odeon cinemas are refusing to show it.

I heard that too on the news. Don't blame them if it's going to be on DVD so soon
I would have been really looking forward to this, but after the horrible trainwreck of a film that was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I'm just hoping for the best.

Apart from the premier, which is being shown at an Odeon. Cineworld cinemas will show the movie, after coming to an agreement with Disney.
I personally cant wait for this film.
I love, love, love Tim Burton films and Believe Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter are the perfect onscreen duo, all 3 together have made some of my favourite films!
Me and my little one will be off to watch this ASAP, We loved Corpse Bride so hope Alice is on a parr!
mr. pixel 23-02-2010, 10:07 should be a good version...
dark comedy masterpiece, quirky lead role for johnny depp, creepy yet with overly bright colours..possibly formulaic..?
I can't wait to see this, I love Tim Burton and I'm confident in him that he'll do the story justice (though I've heard it's not the actual Alice in Wonderland story, it's when she's older). It looks amazing.
I can't wait to see it too ! Love, LOVE Tim Burton ! He has the most amazing imagination!
__Louise__ 23-02-2010, 18:51 though I've heard it's not the actual Alice in Wonderland story, it's when she's older
Yeah, that's right. Alice goes back to Wonderland when she's 19 (I think).
I'm really looking forward to it, though I haven't seen a film in 3D yet and I already wear glasses - not sure how comfortable it'll be sitting there for 3 hours with 2 pairs on!

Get some one day/ one week contact lenses 'cause the way the 3D glasses these days are designed that'll be very uncomfortable!

Yeh, good idea! I'll have to look into that.

Never had an issue with the 3D glasses over spectacles, and in fact find that they sit perfectly comfortably in front of my glasses. The Real-D glasses these days are a huge improvement over the old days of coloured lenses in cardboard (which were impossible to wear with specs).
I'd suggest testing out the 3D glasses before spending money on contacts.
looks interesting, great casting, i am looking forward to seeing it.
The odeon have now reversed the decision (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8536195.stm)not to show it.

displaced 01-03-2010, 11:57 I watched an advanced preview last week. It was fantastic. Johnny Depp is amazing as always. Wish I could be a kid again and watch it through those eyes.
flamingjimmy 01-03-2010, 15:29 Sounds bloody awful! Mr Burton needs to take a few years out if you ask me, and to stop putting his uber annoying wife in all of his films.

Really? I hadn't noticed. :D
cressida 02-03-2010, 16:39 I'm going to see it on Friday

You know the Odeon really annoys me. It smells, there's always chavs running about the place and for what you pay I feel a little robbed. Much prefer Vue at Meadowhell. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing this. Johnny Depp looks to be fantastic in it.
tracysue 03-03-2010, 09:05 tim buton is a great artist, can't wait to see how he has jazzed this film up.it will be more suitable for all the family not just the under 8's.
mojoworking 03-03-2010, 13:17 Saw it today and it was amazing. The 3D effects are incredible and the surreal characterisations little short of astounding. Burton has taken a few liberties with the original story (Alice is now 19 and visiting Wonderland for the second time), but all the pieces are in place with just a few alterations.
Casting Matt Lucas as both Tweedledum and Tweedledee was inspired and Helena Bonham Carter was born to play the Red Queen (despite an unsettling similarity with Miranda Richardson's Elizabeth I in Blackadder).
Best film of the year, so far.
cressida 06-03-2010, 22:40 Went to see it on Friday and it was spectacular, we were given 3D glasses with our tickets, my son want to see it again
Smack Jack 07-03-2010, 12:04 I saw it and loved it. When I came out of the cinema our lass popped to the bathroom and some uber trendy posh talking students came and stood next to me and declared it terrible which made me feel thick, but I just figure for some people its cool to hate.
To me the whole film was captivating and again the story, characters and effects were brilliant. It was great fun and I'd recommend it to anyone,
flamingjimmy 07-03-2010, 13:08 Watched it last night, as usual the art design (whilst being the same as every other Tim Burton film) is amazing, mostly decent casting (apart from god damned Helena Bonham whatever), but the story... oh dear. Alice in Wonderland is not supposed to be about an epic showdown where the ****SPOILER ALERT, STOP READING NOW!**** mad hatter wields a bloody broadsword!! Stupid hollywood, trying to make it into some sort of Lord of the Rings showdown. If he'd just remade the original it would've been much better.
rosieadamson 20-05-2010, 18:55 just watched this very dark version of the classic story, i woudnt take very young children to watch it theres some parts which would scare them
