View Full Version : Mamma Mia
I have to say....
I am so looking forward to this film!!!! I saw the stage show in las Vegas in February and thought it was terrific!!! :)
In fact, for the last few days, I've been in a bit of an ABBA world!!!
Please tell me I'm not the only one :help: !!
Definately not alone! We saw it in New York on Broadway a couple of years ago - fab! Going to see the film on Friday night.

Beakerzoid 09-07-2008, 20:25 If you are a fan of Abba, note down Wednesday August 13th in your diary as Cineworld are doing one-day special screenings of Abba: The Movie all day (in digital)

That sounds...... Fab!!!
I'm guessing Cineworld isn't in S Wales...???!!! :(
I'm listening to The Mamma Mia stroy on ITV2 as I type.... :hihi: :hihi:
I hate films like this but I actually fancy watching it.
I really want to see it but can't see any of my mates being interested. Dam being single! I could at least then pretend the girlfriend was 'dragging' me to see it. :hihi:

Ha ha! Arrange a film meet in the film group? :hihi:You could dress up as Benny.

Screw that, I'd look much better as Agnetha, erm...

EdnaKrabappe 09-07-2008, 22:26 Ha ha! If you did that, I'd definitely come on the meet! :hihi:

It's not going to happen. Making women envious of you for looking better than them in a silver body suit, is a quick way to a painful death.

I saw the show in Vegas last month and thought it was excellent. I'm a bloke who enjoys a good rom-com and musical so with the excellnt reviews in the press and the fact the show was good I am really looking forward to this. Lets hope it doesn't let me down!!
shihtzumad 11-07-2008, 21:04 My 2 daughters went to see it last night and they both said it was amazing and could watch it again, one is 17 the other is 12. They said loads was up dancing to Abba songs.

Because your life is complete..?
:hihi:
LordChaverly 12-07-2008, 13:42 The only thing which would encourage me to see 'Mama Mia' is if it contained lingering shots of Agnetha's rear (in its prime).
If the film is as good as the review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61UolzFTVPI), then I'll be up for seeing Mamma Mia. Best review ever from the good doctor (and that's including Sex Lives of the Potato Men, and all three instalments of Pirates of the Caribbean) :D .

Brilliant review - loved his Swedish impersonation :hihi:
Saw it last night and loved it!! Cheesy-ier than a bag of wotsits!! Really wanted to jump up and start singing. I just can't get the image of Pierce Brosnan singing out of my head....
I'm gonna drag the OH to watch it - should be fun :hihi:
rainbow sky 12-07-2008, 17:05 My niece and her friend, both 14, saw it yesterday at Meadowhall, they said it was great.

Well worth going to see!!!

Ha! I'm a busy lady this next week but if the interest is still there, perhaps for the week after. Or please go ahead and organise one without me!
donuticus 13-07-2008, 01:37 Four words review this film perfectly.
So bad, it's good.
What a gay day :hihi: :hihi:
pinklady 13-07-2008, 07:57 saw it last night ............ its the cheesy-ist, camp-est film Ive ever seen, ........... absolutly brilliant, a real 'feel good' film that'll have you sat there with a huge smile on your face (I,m sure i looked derranged) and tapping your feet along to all the classics.
Also makes me pine for a greek island!
oh yeah ......... Meryl Steep .............. what a voice :o
It was just sheer entertainment!!!! :hihi: :hihi:
The cast looked as if they were thoroughly enjoying themselves as well.....
EdnaKrabappe 13-07-2008, 22:03 ended up going to see it tonight - i will so go and see it again... it is really really funny in a singalongy type way. My friend and i were singing along to all the classics. (well no name of the game and knowing me, knowing you but the rest of them)
How gorgeous is Meryl Streep looking these days??

At the end when Meryl says another one and they do... sshhh.... we did start singing and imagined that in America people would have got up and started dancing... it's just dying for us all to lose our inhibitions and start dancing round.
I loved the winner takes it all bit.

RedRocker 14-07-2008, 09:41 Me and the wife went to see the stage show in London. I just think that the film won't come close to the west end show!!!! But as we have unlimited cards for Cineworld we might go and do the 20 min rule (if it's rubbish, leave!!!!)

I saw the show in Las Vegas and thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
There's not much missed out of the film, and I think it benefits from the setting...!!!

OMG so have I! And since going to watch the film which is fabolous by the way I am in the abba mood. Youtube is favourited on the Abba tracks  & I have digged out the Abba greatest hits album & downloaded it onto the ipod.
Totally love them :)
crowefan 17-07-2008, 21:34 Brosnan sang badly, streep was wonderfull, whole thing was a cheesy musical with an awful plot..........
i loved it
pippadoll 20-07-2008, 17:47 Loved it, loved it, loved it. Didn't think I could bear it, but it was great.
ArticJack 04-10-2008, 08:49 My wife and I saw Mama Mia last week and she thought the movie was brilliant.
But I thought it was just ok and over rated.
It seems that I'm the only one that couldn't get in to this movie, is it just a girl thing as every female I know loved the movie.
What did you think?
Rate the movie 1 - 10
This (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=61UolzFTVPI) is the approach you need to take to the film :hihi: .
(The whole review is funnier than the film [especially the Meryl and Pierce Brosnan impressions], but scroll to about 5.45 min for the crux of the matter).
ETA: And go to about ten minutes in for the run in to the Swedish chef impressions :D .
Lovvvvvvvved it & how beautiful is Meryl Streep.10/10 for me :)
I was seriously disappointed in the film, totally over rated, i cant believe people have been to the cinema more than once to see it, once was more than enough for me... and i love a good chic flick...
Rate: 5/10
I loved it (apart from Pierce Brosnan's singing :P) I wasn't expecting much but went with the girls from work. It was a funny, entertaining, feel-good film... and of course you just have to sing along :)
9/10
Everything I've heard about it plays up how great the music is.
So, I'll ignore the film completely and sit at home with an Abba album.
pattricia 28-11-2008, 20:09 A rather silly storyline but otherwise FANTASTIC !!!

The music was good, that was prob the best bit about the whole film lol, so indeed you get ya Abba ablum out sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy  who needs Mamma Mia ;)

I second that, she could've at least found out who her Dad was... i think that was the downfall of the movie
Yawn Yawn!!!!

Yes, they never said who her dad was did they ?
crowefan 28-11-2008, 22:14 The film is in itself average, yet enjoyable......what makes this film a great one is Streep...............she looks fantastic for 60......and sings like an angel........
a real star......
*Wallace* 28-11-2008, 22:16 The movie is so gay.
Yes, they never said who her dad was did they ?
It's not like the whole "illegitimate child" thing hasn't been done to death anyway, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader anyone?
*Wallace* 28-11-2008, 22:54 And Rosemary's Baby :hihi:
 Yawn Yawn!!!
Please keep on Topic...
Thanks!
My wife and I saw Mama Mia last week and she thought the movie was brilliant.
But I thought it was just ok and over rated.
I was exactly the same. I give it 2/10. Barbara loved it, so it cost me the CD and a hat for the grand kids
Sometimes you can have too much of this, they appear to just churn out the same old stuff. Maybe I'm not easily pleased or just need something new to jolt my cynical mind.
KJ_VENOM 29-11-2008, 18:26 3/10, and it wouldn't have scored that highly if not for the amount of vodka i drank to get through Pierce Brosnan singing
pinkpanties 30-11-2008, 14:58 I went and got the flim the other day.
I think the story is quite crap but at least the music is good.:)
I also think Pierce Brosnan is the worst actor in the world and this flim didnt do anything for him
nosy nellie 30-11-2008, 15:32 A very ordinary family film I could not sit through it again,It has been very overated
the music and the scenery was the best part 4/10.
kaitykaybell 30-11-2008, 16:50 My daughter had been to see this movie 3 times, I bought it her this weekend and watched it Saturday night. My children enjoyed it but I thought it was utter rubbish. Talk about hype a movie up. Did not rate the movie atall. 4/10
pennypie 21-06-2009, 17:33 Seriously, the hype this film got - were people drunk before they went to see it?! I am watching it and its killing me, but feel I must try and get through it - it could get better! But so far just keeps getting worse!!!
Tell me someone else thought it was rubbish or I might just go mad!
Well i loved it went to see it 3 times at cinema and still watch it at home .
pennypie 21-06-2009, 21:07 Had to turn it off. Thought it was truly the most awful film I have ever, ever, ever watched.
I think it might be the frame of mind you're in when you first see it, or your personal circumstances. Do you have kids pennypie? I don't and I hated it, while family members who do all loved it. I think it might be the nostalgia of mum and daughter relationship type thing? I also don't like movie musicals in general so that might be another reason I didn't like it! Each to their own I suppose? :)
