View Full Version : Ear piercing in Sheffield city centre susa41981 13-07-2005, 10:04 Hi Can anyone tell me if theres anywhere I can get my ears pierced in town ? Thanks nick2 13-07-2005, 10:07 I got mine done in the Castle Market, I wouldn't recommend it. spinny 13-07-2005, 10:13 i agree with nik2 on this one. i had nothing but trouble with the market one,i only know of tattoo places now in sheffield.then again i dont use any in sheffield no more.rather have all my piercing done in ingoldmels. think your best bet is tattoo places.do not use the one in the market it is not a nice place to have it done at all. mjlacey21 13-07-2005, 10:14 Make sure they use a needle and not a piercing gun to do it. love_hearts 13-07-2005, 11:14 Claires Accessories on Chapel Walk do it. mjlacey21 13-07-2005, 11:16 DON'T GET IT DONE THERE!!!!! zerocool 13-07-2005, 11:17 i believe h samuels in meadowhall do it, i had mine done at a sammys once many moons ago. mjlacey21 13-07-2005, 11:20 These are all places that use guns. Get it done at a proper piercer/tattooist with a needle. Guns can carry hepatitus as they cannot be properly sterilised. There is somewhere in orchard Square but I don't know what it's like. susa41981 13-07-2005, 11:28 Thanks everyone nick2 13-07-2005, 11:58 Having said I wouldn't recommend the market, I did get a big bag of broken biscuits on the way out for £1. susa41981 13-07-2005, 13:10 nick2 you've totally changed my mind now. Market here I come...the broken biscuits were the decider tattoo 13-07-2005, 13:56 Originally posted by mjlacey21 [B]Make sure they use a needle and not a piercing gun to do it. B] why not use a gun to do lobes if you use 100% sterile studs please note i said lobes and not the top of the ear raskel 13-07-2005, 15:10 debenhams do it... that where got ear lobes done with a gun.... top o ear got done at van shieks (think its that) at hillsborough with a needle lucymamba 13-07-2005, 16:25 Originally posted by tattoo why not use a gun to do lobes if you use 100% sterile studs please note i said lobes and not the top of the ear Guns still basically cause too much trauma being 'blunt' compared to a needle which goes through better without force. And unless brand new they cannot be guaranteed to be sterile... they can't be cleaned at a high enough temp to be sterile - they would melt. Brand new sterile needles, unwrapped in front of you at a proper piercing place are a safer bet :) In town I know of Primal Piercing on West St, not heard bad things about there, not sure if anyone else has? If you ever pass through Killamarsh, the Inkmaster tat studio do piercings and are very good :) susa41981 13-07-2005, 16:34 Its the lobes that I want piercing. I've actually had them pierced before but have closed up quite a bit. Anyone think I'd be able to open them up again myself and if so how? Susie 13-07-2005, 16:38 I would recommend seeing Jayne at Feline Tattoo on hickmott Road just off ecclesall road, they are fantastic there and of all the people who have done my peircings in the past Jayne is definately the best. you can get contact details here www.fionalong.com Susie xx tattoo 13-07-2005, 18:22 lucymamba ,how the heck is a gun blunt these guns are standard issue piercing guns for ear lobes and you have no need to autoclave them as its the studs that are pre packed and 100%sterile as is the stud holder and butterfly holder slh73 13-07-2005, 19:17 Originally posted by tattoo lucymamba ,how the heck is a gun blunt these guns are standard issue piercing guns for ear lobes and you have no need to autoclave them as its the studs that are pre packed and 100%sterile as is the stud holder and butterfly holder The studs may look sharp, but theyre not. not compared to a proper cannula bevelled chemically sharpened needle anyway. And yes, they do cause tissue damage. And it doesnt matter one bit that the studs are sterile packed. The gun comes in contact with the customers skin, the stud gets fired in, skin cells/lymph/blood atc gets on the gun, gun cant be properly sterilised, hey presto, hepatitis C for everyone else who gets pierced with it afterwards. I suggest reading this (http://www.bmeworld.com/heidi/guns.html) , then going to Jayne at Feline Tattoo, Hickmott Road for any piercing work you may want done in future. maggyirene 13-07-2005, 21:55 ive had my ears pierced five times . and by a gun had no probs what so ever.its the after care of bathing and not fiddling with em that helps.the first time was at h samuels oppersite debanams.then in the market.then at tattoo shop at woodseats.was fine with all of them.the thing is not to wear cheap earings after they have healed . susa41981 13-07-2005, 22:04 h samuels in town maggyirene? turpz 13-07-2005, 22:32 If you just want to open up holes you already have, you might be able to do it with a taper, basically a bit of metal, that starts dead thin, and 'tapers' up to the size of an earring... you can buy them but just for lobes, it'd be cheaper and easier to ask a piercer to do it. Not sure who around here does it, but you could try ringing round. If you'd need them actually repiercing then I'd say go with a needle too, aside from anything else it's so much less painfull. :) I wouldn't recommend Primal Piercing, they're sterile enough, but the woman who did mine at least was not the best. I had to mark them myself cos she kept putting the dots in the weirdest spots, and then I had to offer to fasten the rings afterwards - she ended up getting someoen else to finish up for her. lucymamba 13-07-2005, 22:37 Originally posted by tattoo lucymamba ,how the heck is a gun blunt these guns are standard issue piercing guns for ear lobes and you have no need to autoclave them as its the studs that are pre packed and 100%sterile as is the stud holder and butterfly holder Exactly as slh73 said :D Cheers, hehe. Even the earrings used aren't the best thing, even if the gun piercing were safe... My first set of lobes when I was young never healed properly. Eventually, the large butterfly back of the 'piercing' earrings actually went inside my ear, while still attached to the front, and I ended up having the two bits pulled apart with tweezers and out my earlobe at the hospital *shudder*. That wasn't fun! :) DragonofAna 13-07-2005, 23:04 As we are on the topic of self-mutilation, and this is probably a break from the main thread, but what age would you say is the proper age for a child to have her, or his, ears pierced? Or do you think there should be no minimum age? Sorry but I personally think it is irresponsible of parents when I see a two year old with her ears pierced. Dragon This has been asked here before, and in my opinion all body piercing (including ears) should only be done on people over 16. That way its the individuals decision to have it done, and responsibility to look after it while it heals, rather than the parent forcing it on some poor toddler. tattoo 14-07-2005, 13:54 there is no set age limit for body piercing and if a youngster goes in one studio and gets told no they are too young THEY JUST GO TO ANOTHER STUDIO AND GET IT DONE THERE also just to point out that the british body piercing association state that its ok to pierce lobes with a gun and the uk goverment health dept state that is ok to pierce lobes with a gun ALL OTER TYPES OF BODY PIERCINGS WITH A CANULAR NEEDLE turpz 14-07-2005, 14:32 Originally posted by tattoo also just to point out that the british body piercing association state that its ok to pierce lobes with a gun and the uk goverment health dept state that is ok to pierce lobes with a gun They say it's ok, but it doesn't mean it's the best option. I've personally had 3 sets of lobe piercings done with a gun, and had no real problems, and so have others. But like Lucymamba said, there ARE people that have problems with them too. And my 'needled' holes certainly were healed much quicker, and didn't hurt at all. So if people want to risk it for lobes, then fair enough, guns are certainly better suited to those than any other piercing, and you'll probably have no real issues. Probably. http://www.bmeworld.com/heidi/guns.html <-- worth a read. As for age limit, I think if a child is old enough to know they want their ears piercing, and understand that they have to keep them clean, etc etc, then they're old enough to get it done. Two year olds might not want them done, but have no choice over the matter. OwlsChick 14-07-2005, 17:39 i have my lobes done 3times in a row if you know what i mean and i had them done at castle market, but it was the place that closed down, or it might have moved down stairs, i dont know, anywayz i have NEVER had any problems with it, i know the place dosnt look and sound very hygenic but its ok, i also recomend steel city on london road, i had my bellybutton peirced their and my tattoo and again no problems. thats my advice anywayz dan_999uk 15-07-2005, 16:15 Originally posted by Susie I would recommend seeing Jayne at Feline Tattoo on hickmott Road just off ecclesall road, they are fantastic there and of all the people who have done my peircings in the past Jayne is definately the best. you can get contact details here www.fionalong.com Susie xx Can add my recommendation to this - had the top of my ear done, it was fast, reasonable, painless and professional. :) badhairdo 22-07-2005, 23:30 if youve had them done for some time before they closed, chances are you could go to a piercers and have them re-opened using an insertion pin as they have probably just shrunk. This is alot cheaper than having them re-pierced and less traumatic. They will be sore for about a week. I would also advise against gun piercings even on lobes for all of the forementioned reasons. Also, the type of jewellery can be problematic as most gun piercers dont use titanium, which is a hypoallergenic metal. |
