I know that barfers and kibble feeders don't get on so can we please try to keep this "on topic".

After seeing an old posting about pro-barf vets I wondered if the situation had changed much. I know Vets4Pets get a hard time from some but the ones at Millhouses seem pro-natural feeding although I also use Spire Vets in Chesterfield and they couldn't care less what you feed so long as the dog appears healthy.

Broadening the topic to food supplies, I wondered where people got their food from. I know the place at the back of Towsures has been mentioned. Since S&M foods stopped producing their own minced chicken carcasses I've had to use them but I'm not convinced that their quality is as good as S&M's was. Now that S&M has gone bust, does anyone know of any other mince suppliers?

If anyone wants whole carcasses, they should try Hadfields at the back of Progressive Safety Footware (near the new RSPCA place)...box of 30 or so for £2.50. A couple of doors along I get bones free (well I give them a case of beer at Christmas so not quite free!). Finally I get some nice raw fish fillets from Woodseats Fisheries (he calls it "fish bones" although it's anything but - I do put it through a mincer though) and all it costs me is a regular order of fish and chips - hardly a great sacrifice!.

So now that I've told you where I go, does anyone else have some tips on who they get meaty scraps from?

I get mine from my from the trainer I go to in Barnsley. We can get whole chicken carcass, chopped pieces, dried liver treats, and various minced meat with or without veg. I think he does himself and it sounds quite tough as they had to get all the paperwork/ licenses and premises to do it. We have occassionally got pigs snouts from castle market but that is a bit hit and miss. I occassionally buy frozen minced rabbit from pets at home though it does not look as good as the other stuff.

I go to vet4pets and they don't seem over concerned about a raw diet, I think they just get concerned about the bone part as they can't really reccommend something that possibly could damage the dog.

Our dog balloons and his stomach looks swollen on manufactured dog food and we were giving him so little to keep his weight down it felt cruel dispite at least 2 hours of excerise a day. On raw he can eat more, toliets less and seems much calmer (dog aggression calmed down). His skin and dodgy stomach cleared up quickly too. We pay about a £5 for about 8 days worth of food for a lab sized dog.

It's a bit far to go to get food though unless you can freeze it

Have you got a contact address or number for your trainer in Barnsley?

I will get the address / number this week for you, will most likely be Saturday as we are normally in a little rush when we go earlier in the week as he has a class before and after the one we go to. I think it is run separate from the dog training part so I will ask if they have a contact number for the food side.

It is tricky finding places!

I disagree with you frisbee, i have had minced chicken carcass from s&m and other various places, and i would say the quality of the foods from the place behind towsures is far better than any of the other suppliers.
i have been a rawfeeder for many years now, this is the best place by far, and they also have a fantastic range of foods and it is all priced very well.

Redtail: That's reassuring. Perhaps I just liked the look of the coarse grind chicken that S&M produced. If you think that Pet Grub/DAF (the place behind Towsure's) is the best quality around, I'll stop looking elsewhere.

Do you shop anywhere else for other bits and pieces?

we are all living in very busy times and i found that i was having shop around all different places to fulfill my dogs nutritional raw diet, but since finding petgrub, i now go to 1 place for all my frozen foods and they also supply the essential supplements (such as Garlic juice, salmon oil and all the dorwest range) that you need to complete your dogs raw feed diet.

Can I just ask besides raw meat, do you add anything else

other than the raw meat, i add a squirt of garlic juice, a squirt of salmon oil and i also use dorwest easy greens and keepers mix, all of this i have found at petgrub to my surprise.
