Anyone know? wendygs 12-07-2005, 19:23 Dont know is the short answer but as you've got internet access, I'm providing some info on possible information sources to help you find out. In my experience please dont expect it to be a picnic because I havent found that people fall over themselves to point out the relevant info. It's back-breaking work to get medical evidence from Consultants possibly hospital social workers etc to confirm you need stuff requested, complete application forms and provide evidence of everything you said about yourself; particularly important in terms of money coming in to a household. Independent Living Fund administrated by LAs may help with adaptations and will obviously want forms filling with loads and loads of evidence. Both Disability Information & Advice Line (DIAL) & Forum for People with Disabilities on the Wicker no longer exist in Sheffield - perhaps they've changed their phone and forgot to tell everyone. Nearest DIAL is in Rotherham; It helps to have a really good relationship with your GP who may very well have a strong influence on funding initiatives; you will probably need an Occupational Therapist's report; dcil.org.uk in Derbyshire are usually on top of finding out information and although they cant do the work for you they are quick at providing the info. Funding is all usually means tested and life is much easier if you're self-financed apart from making sense of the information jungle and identifying the stuff best suited for your needs can be a pain. Once you've got some key words try a "dogpile.com" search; I've found that it's far better than google. bigkev 10-04-2006, 09:44 you cant get motobility if you are an alcoholic like me but you can get it if you cant walk properly which is what I use to be like when I use to start drinking at 05:00am every morning just to get rid of the shakes. motobility is for people who need help getting around like they are metally handicap or they are wheelchair bound they have lost a limb, my son gets it because he is autistic I have got a friend who gets it because he has got back problems it can be for allsorts of things check the DSS office and they will tell you, you will have to ring barnsley or sheffield though as rotherham as know longer got a DSS office in town it closed down in december of last year. willman 10-04-2006, 09:48 no direspect to valid claimants ,but this is abused more than the benefits system. JoeP 10-04-2006, 10:02 Plain Talker may have some knowledge. Joe Lotti 10-04-2006, 10:11 You first have to be registered disabled. Not entirely sure how we went about this, but you end up with someone coming to you and doing an assessment of your disability. Then if you qualify you are given a certain disability living allowance (DLA), if you receive the higher rate DLA, then you can qualify for motability. I can't remember exactly but I'm sure if you just google 'motability' or 'disability living allowance' you'll find more info. Alternatively if you see an Occupational Therapist, you could ask them. (I was quite a bit younger when I was assessed and my parents, with the help of the Occupational Therapist, applied for it. |
