View Full Version : What is the best way to stop this practice
Chinese skinning dogs alive has raised its head again. It never went away, its just that sometimes we forget the sheer brutality and cruelty that happens in our world. But how best to act. There are loads of petitions on line, been going on for years and years, but they continue to skin these beautiful animals alive. Is there a solution, one person refusing to buy anything branded as chinese has little impact in the world. How can this be stopped.

Probably can't. Find something else to worry about.
Well Halibut, I have to agree with you that this vile practice will probably continue, but what gives mankind the right to inflict such pain on other species. There are many causes to worry about, but if someone does not worry about these evil practices we might as well stop calling ourselves human.
Moonbird 16-06-2009, 19:03 I wish that I knew how to stop it, it's the most horrific thing that I ever saw and I will never forget it.
I suppose that its a case of education, some countries just don't feel for animals as we do here (or at least some of us) I could live with the fact that they are eaten if they were well treat whilst alive and humanely killed, I think that there are quite a few animal charities on to it, but I'm not holding my breath for results :(
Along with the treatment of battery hens (which we seem to blindly accept whilst criticisng foreign practices) it is a horrific practice.
But in respect to our treatment of hens, before we look at "other cultures" surely we need to put our own house in order?
It would help if consumers were educated too
There are fashion items coming into this country which people choose to believe are 'fake fur' due to it's apparent low quality. In fact these are items manufactured from cat or dog fur
We were in a pub when Brude went NUTS trying to get at a teenager's handbag. When she picked it up off the floor I asked what it was made of, and she said it was fake fur. Oh really? I didn't say to her, but why the heck would my scent hound be going nuts at nylon? He just WOULDN'T!!

Couldn't agree more, just because an animal is to be meat does not mean that it should be treat any less well than any other animal.

I hope you apologised to the young woman, there are loads of reasons why a dog might 'go nuts trying to get at' someones bag.
*adds halibut to ignore list*
I know the difference between my scent hound's behaviours thank you, and of course I apologised

Totally agree!!
I have signed all the on line petitions I can find (again) I dont think education will work, they seem to have no feelings or regard for animals. I do agree that our own house needs to be in order - but that should not stop us doing our best to prevent this cruelty in other countries.
In the ideal world, all creatures would be treat with love and respect, but this world is far from ideal.
I am starting my own petition (little good it will probably do against these monsters) so anyone who wants some copies pm me and I will post them out next week.
I just cannot sit back anymore thinking oh dear, how terrible, what can we do.
Tinkerbella 17-06-2009, 18:37 I have pm'd you xx
Thank you
I have been in touch with Peta to find the best way forward and have the address of the chinese ambassador. Fron Jan 09 the import of cat and dog fur has been banned by EU countries. Its not just cats and dogs though, its turtles, crocs, bears, every poor animal that walks and breathes is subjected to some form of abuse and torture for its fur, its meat or its bile. Disgusting.

isnt this practise to be ended by 2012 or is it something i just heard , having transporting 112 ex battery hens for little hen rescue i agree something wants doing same for any animal they have feeling too. i too have signed the petitions and wrote to the chinesse embassy re the skinning of live animals as yet had no reply .
I dont expect a repy Nigel, that would be civilised and how can you expain these actions.
But giving it a shot.

Hi
Have to agree as an animal lover in a country that is supposedly full of animal lovers I and millions of others find the thought of this barbaric. Have to also say that as someone who does a lot of work in China working directly with Chinese nationals, and seeing how little life in general is held in regard (and I am talking about people here, they still send baby girls to the "dying rooms" which do exactly what it says on the tin, for instance) I have to say that there is a negligible chance of anything ever been done about this. Hope someone proves me wrong though. Conversley for a nation not valuing life, they have an awful lot of regard for death and celebrate it regularly. Day of the Dead, tomb sweeping day being just 2 of the festivals I know off.
I have to agree twibstix, the treatment of humanity is terrible. Abortions are easier to find than getting a tooth filled. Babies are dumped in rubbish if they are the wrong sex or the father is not in a position to marry, ok that happens here too but not on the scale it does in China. Poverty and the regard for human life, sweat shops, etc all occur and the Chinese rich abor their poor people who they class as low. We support this because we buy cheap chinese goods. While ever we in the west ask for cheap goods they will provide at no regard to humanity or the animal kingdom.
Here is a copy of the letter I sent

Dear Sir
I am writing to you to appeal that you put forward proposals immediately to stop the cruel and barbaric treatment of animals in your country.
I am organising petitions which support the boycott of Chinese goods until such a time as these practices cease.
These practices include
• the imhumane treatment of animals intended for the food industry, the cruel transportation of animals in tightly packed crated, the barbaric uncaring way they are thrown from lorries as if they are bales of hay and the injuries they receive as they fall from the trucks and are kicked about as if they are footballs.
•Dogs tied with their legs dislocated behind their backs and tin cans put over their muzzles, no food or water and the inability to pant, these animals in this condition for days whilst awaiting sale for food
•Dogs skinned alive and remaining alive in total distress and shock and unimaginable pain whilst they wait for an end to their miserable lives, this practice done in this way because of the belief that the fur is better if it is taken from the animal whilst alive. Dogs sometimes surviving up to 20 minutes in a heap of other skinned and writhing dogs awaiting an end to the agony
•Cats thrown alive into boiling water in order for a better skinning
•Turtles having shells removed in the markets and being sliced alive and remaining walking until eventually a fatal haemorrhage occurs, the meat apparently being fresher whilst the animal is alive and in agony
•Bears used for bile, kept in cramped inhumane conditions
There are many other examples of which I am sure you are aware of but I give just a few as an example. These examples are not hearsay or rumour, there is ample video footage of your countries barbaric treatment of animals.
Poverty exists in your country, if people in the West are made more aware of the atrocities committed against animals and boycott Chinese goods, poverty will increase.
China claims to be a forward thinking country, China needs to join the compassionate world and begin to treat all creatures including other humans with respect.
