View Full Version : Bomb Scare in sheffield Suggests Blair Knew and Did Nothing
miniminch 12-07-2005, 14:54 what (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47845&highlight=sheffield+bomb+scare) do you think (http://www.propagandamatrix.com/articles/july2005/090705bombscare.htm) ? Just a coincidence or do you think there might be truth in the story? (note the patronizing tone about Sheffield)
Discuss.
neeeeeeeeeek 12-07-2005, 15:06 Sounds like a load of carp to me. The bomb scare the first post is about was in reference to a package near the court rooms, nothing to do with bombs on busses.
A.B.Yaffle 12-07-2005, 15:08 I reckon the writer of that conspiracy theory has been scouring the Forum, and picking-and-mixing different threads. Clever way of linking the thread about red subaras to terrorist bombs though!
youwhatref 12-07-2005, 15:11 Totally agree. A load of garbage created by the paranoid and anti-war/anti-blair brigade, is my opinion
The trams were running as usual that day and there was no conversation, on the tram or at the stops, about a bomb. Normally you would see the constructors whispering together, not that quietly either, but there was nothing.
As far as i could tell people thought the road closure was due to an accident.
The supertram is basically an identical system to the London Underground, but it operates on standard ground level roads
What? :loopy:
fnkysknky 12-07-2005, 19:18 The kid who wrote it is from Sheffield - obviously thinks we don't get enough media coverage :)
carcrash 12-07-2005, 20:27 paul@propagandamatrix.com is the writer/website owner
There have been bomb scares in Sheffield in the past. About 4 years ago the area around Arundel Gate was closed off for a few hours.
I like the comment about the red subaru
I think it's total rubbish. The name of the web site even suggests non-sense.
Blooming journo' students eh ?
:D
We didn't even get a credit.
furry_chick 13-07-2005, 09:39 i dont think sheffield would be a major target anyway, dont think they'd cause much destruction, say putting a bomb on the supertram seeing as no one uses it. i think we're safe.

People were packed like sardines on the trams I used to catch to and from work. an ermergency stop would probably kill a few people, - a bomb would be carnage.
Or are you perhaps aiming at the 'silly statement of the day' award ?
just emailed Paul with some comments on his article.
Paul,
This weak excuse for a story and the poor journalism behind it should be an embarrassment to you.
Had you actually bothered to speak to anyone at the bus companies in Sheffield you’d have found out that buses were disrupted as was all traffic because the police closed the centre. No buses returned to depots to be searched for bombs, this is just nonsense.
The supertram was affected in just the same way as the rest of the traffic, why bother to point this out, it’s an extremely tenuous link to the underground.
You may have a poor opinion of the media coverage of Sheffield, but I’d be interested to see if you could show where a traffic incident has been headline news for three days. I’d also be interested to see the BBC’s response to your allegation that they don’t cover stories on the ‘advice’ of the police, or indeed how the independent news organisations in Sheffield respond to that allegation.
As to your question about why other buses were diverted, the entire city was gridlocked which explains that mystery.
Finally how is an empty bag discarded on the street and aborted bomb attack on a public transport system?
Regards

I can't find any numbers for the amount of people that hte supertram carries.
But I have found several references to it being 45% lower than predicted, thus running at a loss.
Also, give the relatively few number of lines, the number of passengers must be far below the 3 million carried every day by the tube.
Closure of the tram system causes some disruption, but nothing like the chaos caused by the closure of the tube.
More problems are created by getting roads closed, as this also paralyses the bus and tram service and affects people in their cars.
And as we saw, closing the road system requires nothing more than a cheap rucksack.
Do let us know if you get a reply! Nice email.
As for the article, well what can I say, the site is called propaganda for a start! :loopy:
Good find on the Sheffield bomb article miniminch.

Most recent figures that I have seen (2003) give 11 million per annum.
Roughly around 30 to 35,000 per day.
