View Full Version : Damons Sheffield
JellyBaby 14-06-2009, 21:05 We went today at tea time as it was hubbys birthday. There was a party of 11 of us.
Everyone ordered meals but as i have had an operation i can only eat very small portions so i was looking at the kids menu and decided to order Gammon and rice, when i placed this order i was told i could do this but i would charged £7.50 as an adult instead of the £4.50 it would have cost if i was a child. I then went on to explain why i wanted a kids meal in the first place and that i dont want any extra food just the same portion they would give a child!! This angered me somewhat as the portion was no different and had to pay nearly double the price just because i wasnt a child !!!!
Not like they didnt get enough money from us as the whole bill came to just over £160 !!
Disgusted is not the word !!!
By Damons having a menu available and this being advertised on said menu constitutes an invitation to buy. There should have been no problem with them supplying the product requested at that price. Complain to the manager and explain your predicament, this would normally sort it out. If not, contact consumer direct to see where you stand. You might end up getting a free meal out of it. At least this would give them an opportunity to make up for their terrible service.
Did you take proof of age for your husband and get his main meal free?
JellyBaby 14-06-2009, 21:53 Yeah he did get his meal free and it is really great in there and the food is lush we had no other complaints at all it just really annoyed me slightly that we had to pay the little bit extra for the same food
Im not a skin flint but it is the principle it did say on the menu the age of the children i think but i still think its wrong might just be me
Ah, if it does state ages then this may well be their get out clause. I can totally see your point though. And as a gesture of good will I would have thought that they could have at least done this for you. Still, I would still persue it and see what you can get sorted. God luck with it all.
I'm not sure what the rights and wrongs are in this, but I wonder what would happen if a child wanted an adult meal? Would they then knock some money off it? Somehow I doubt it! So they shouldn't really be able to charge more when it's the other way round. :suspect:
bensonhedges 14-06-2009, 22:48 Damons has had a bad reputation for years. Why people still go is a mystery to me.
discovery 15-06-2009, 07:17 I had the misfortune to experience Damons last year. I hate American Diners in any case but it was the choice of someone in my family for a birthday so obviously I went along with good intentions.
I thought it was absolutely rubbish, the usual greasy tat and totally inflated prices.
If it were up to me I'd never set foot in any American Diner again but unfortunately it seems to be the choice of the younger generation in my family for birthday treats etc. :gag:
Ousetunes 15-06-2009, 08:53 Horrible place.
It's eating out for people who don't eat out.
The pits.
Hey, don't knock it they do a mean steak in there!
nikkit285 16-06-2009, 10:29 damons is always packed when i drive past so theres got to be something going for it eh!
and to be honest if you arent happy with your food inform the area manager and they will do something about it. end of the day it annoys me when people slate places for their food but then dont inform the staff that their unhappy........they arent mind readers you know!
JellyBaby 16-06-2009, 10:55 I wasnt slating it for its food they food was very nice, and i did mention about how unfair it was to charge me nearly double as in original post but they where very determind to charge it me anyway and when it is someones birthday and there is 11 people at your table you dont really wanna spoil the mood so to speak so its not that im averse to complaining quite the opposite actually!!
By Damons having a menu available and this being advertised on said menu constitutes an invitation to buy.
No it doesn't. It constitutes an invitation to treat, which is completely different and the restauraunt has no obligations.
The terms and conditions on the menu clearly stated the age that the childrens menu is available to. Do you think it would be fair if 10 adults came into eat and all ordered off the childrens menu? The restauraunt have the set limits somewhere to make any money.
nikkit285 16-06-2009, 11:18 Jelly baby my comment was in regards to the person/people saying the food was greesy ect.
I sort of do understand where your coming from in regards to wanting a childs meal and to be honest i think if i worked there i would have sorted it so you got a smaller portion to suit your needs however i do have friends who work there and its so strict maybe they couldnt do that im not sure.

it amazes me!!! over priced frozen food from brakes in a dingy out of date restaurant that always looks like it needs a good clean!!! :loopy:
Only been to Damons twice, once when it first opened and didn't like it, and once two weeks ago which I must admit I enjoyed .
allallyouyou 17-06-2009, 22:08 Its a great little place, just a bit pricey.
In such climate i do agree how such place is still going. Think some of the other damons have closed tho?
shefflady78 18-06-2009, 09:09 Does Damonz serve halal?>
NewUpNorf 18-06-2009, 10:22 I love Damons! I always try and persuade my bloke to go there when i'm in Sheff- but then I am easily pleased! lol!
As for the kids meal thing- they should have made an exception when the reason explained. However, I can see their point from a business point of view. If anyone could order off the kids menu they'd end up losing money. I'm sure a lot of 'ladies' would prefer smaller portions- myself included! While it may be 'nice' to offer customers smaller portions for less money, it doesnt make good business sense!
Having said that though- it also doesnt make much business sense for them not to make exceptions to the rule as in Jellybabys case. For the sake of £3 they have alienated a customer, and lost out on any more 'parties' she may have had there in the future!
Did you speak to the manager? I would hope any decent manager would agree. I doubt any young waiter would be willing to make that decision!
LitleMermaid 18-06-2009, 11:47 I bloody hate the place, but I am a vegetarian so dining there is always a pretty grim experience :gag: I only ever go if anyone else goes for their birthday or something, I never choose to eat there! An exception relly should have been made for you JellyBaby!
youwhatref 18-06-2009, 20:36 I think i'll give it a whirl again soon. I've always loved the place albeit the last few times I have been (few months ago) I though the food had become even more expensive and it was a little too greasy and that standards had dropped.
I don't mind expensive if its good quality fresh food damons is neither!!! its a slight step up from McDonalds!!!
Its a great little place, just a bit pricey.
In such climate i do agree how such place is still going. Think some of the other damons have closed tho?
Pricey?? Where do you usually eat? 99p burger deals at McDonalds? :loopy:
JellyBaby 19-06-2009, 10:00 It is pricey i think but i have always enjoyed it so it was never a problem about price but i do agree on the pricey part im afraid!!
thanks you guys for the sake of £3 they have alienated me and i will be going elswhere and let my party spend £160 on a business that deserves it !!
tifftifco2 19-06-2009, 12:06 I dont get the big deal it is annoying yes but it's not the end of the world!
JellyBaby 19-06-2009, 15:05 Who said is was the end of the world? Think you need to re read dear !!
jellybellybean 19-06-2009, 15:18 Years ago Damons used to do MASSIVE portions, the last few times i've been disappointed by them! Their cocktails are however to die for!
