Did anyone else have their car vandalised on the bottom half of Carter Knowle Road last night?

Someone was jumping up and down on mine. The bonnet and roof are looking pretty knackered this morning.

I'd like to do the same on the head and chest of whoever did it.

That really sucks... will you lose your no claim bonus too?
I'd love to see all the mindless baffons who do things like this in the public stocks.. BRING BACK THE STOCKS

Now, now Honeyplanet..,

This, as you well know, would infringe on their civil rights. It's society that has let these poor unfortunates down and not only that, if you own a car it's your job to protect it by stopping up all night, peering through your bedroom window and shouting "Excuse me, young person, could you kindly refrain from putting a dent in by bonnet?"

Yes, the stocks would be superb wouldn't they? Forget a statue at the top of Fargate, which it looks like we'll never get, a set of stocks and some soggy, rotting vegetables or dog muck would create a fine chance for us to get our own back (something 'the law' seems incapable of).

Such brainless numpties who damaged that car, along with the grafitee 'artists' who perpetually target my business premises would be off running to their mummies wouldn't they?

I've suggested bringing back the stocks in the past as a way of curbing a lot of the yobbish behaviour that seems to be rife.
My reasoning is that kids hate to be embarassed and shown up which if they found themselves securely fastened in public for 24 hours might just make them think twice before committing another act of mindless vandelism or similar.
I hadn't heard of there being much trouble on CarterKnowle road and can only hope that this is not a sign of more to follow.

In addition to last night's shenanigans, someone had a go at the spare wheel on my wife's Saxo the weekend before last.

They're notoriously easy to nick, being on the underside of the car rather than down inside the boot, so I'd wrapped a bike lock round it for a bit of added security. They must have been disturbed, or given up, and left it hanging off, because we knew nothing about it till the spare fell on to the road last week! (Which could easily have caused an accident, but the toerags don't think about that.) So now the spare is in the boot and the bracket that holds it to the underside of the car has a bit missing. Another royal pain in the @rse to sort out.

Both cars on the drive with the gates shut in future I think.

We live higher up on Carterknowle and it seems that there have been quite a few bits of petty vandalism in the area over the past few months. Our car also got 'attacked' a few weeks ago though only minor damage. Strangely coincided with end of term for schoolkids.

I think the best way to stop this would be to wire your car to the mains, electricuting the vandals when they strike might stop them. However i heard a similar story happened a few years ago, with a guy, sick of his car being damaged repeatedly, tried this, then got put away for GBH. So perhaps you should stick to sneeking looks out of the window as ouse suggested earlier.

You know, I always thought that such problems didn't happen around there, it's a decent area,no?

It is a decent area - just bad for petty car crime it seems. A Community police officer told me as much.

Anyway, it looks like my motor is going to be written off, as a new roof would cost more than it's worth.

I never objected to a few dents on my car and maybe even patches of grey primer as that made the car far less nickable and as long as it ran and it kept the rain off [well most of the time] it'd do.
I have recently noticed some low lifes riding motorbikes on the school playing fields who have been heard to swear at dog owners, the little angels apparently live up near the Cherrytree, I'm just wondering if there's a connection.

you could wire your car up to the mains, and be fine - as long as you put warning notices on the vehicle :)

we're just off Shirecliffe and tonight the local oicks put a couple of bricks through Buffys van. They only looked about 14 and apparently had been milling around all night causing trouble in the area. This is just so nothing new that we can't even be bothered to get mad about it, what's the point?

They win, don't they? They dress alike, they sound alike. they go around in gangs because then they've got gang power. Not one of them would behave like this individually, only when they're all together and can shore up their stupidity.
They are stupid and they're bored and they mostly have parents who need a kick up the a*** as much as they do. I just wish that any juvenile convicted of anti social behaviour had their right to benefits stopped when they come of age. Maybe they'd try harder to improve themselves if they thought that no one was going to give them a free ride, It might sound drastic because of their age but at what age do they have to start being responsible for themselves and their future? It seems to be the whole point of sending them to school, where have they all got the idea from that it's not their responsibility to learn anything? They seem to have the idea that they can behave as anti socially as they like and get away with it. They can too, it's perfectly safe for them to act like this. Who has the power to stop them? Nobody has because everyone has their hands tied. The pecking order is in disarray because the older kids are just as bad or worse.
It's because there are so many of them acting like this that they can get away with it, they overwhelmed the system and they won.
I hear so many responsible adults say they can't do anything because they will be the ones prosecuted. Now I'm just having a rant and maybe I'm just trying to lighten my mood a little but I say we take a leaf out of their book. If enough responsible adults decided to act irresponsibly and take the law into their own hands then eventually the CPS would give up....
We could clean up Devonshire Green in no time, give the little loves a scutch while confiscating their drugs and alcohol. Jump up and down on their ipods/mobiles/skateboards. It should be mandatory to heave half bricks at any gathering of more than two. Let's impose our own curfews on them, never mind the stocks. build outdoor iron cages and if they want to be out late stick them in there for the whole night and pray for rain.
Sure, a few of us will end up in court but we could use the publicity to attract more long suffering members of the community to throw off the shackles of restraint imposed on us by the authorities. And why do we call them authorities? The only authority they've got is over the law abiding citizens because it's with our consent! Well screw that, I love Sheffield and I think it's worth saving before it gets any worse.
Okay I'm only joking about doing any of the above, no matter how much I'd like the idea of it the law says not. It's been taken out of our hands and it hasn't been put into anyone elses. There was a time when the police/parents/school or community could handle this problem but not any more. These kids are just getting away with whatever they can, same as we would have years ago if we hadn't had restraints. I think it's now been proved that kids need discipline of some form, they need standards that they should have to adhere to or pay a penalty.
Isn't it amazing that so many parents think that because they can't give their kids a clip any more that their resposibility for disciplining them ended there and then? Schools are just as bad, half the teachers are terrified. Is it all some stupid government experiment that our lives have turned out this way? Or just sheer bad government on their part? Anyone who hasn't been affected in any way by this problem, just sit back and wait.....they'll get to you soon enough

At the risk of being repetetive, we are now sadly reaping years of rule by those oh-so-caring bleeding-heart hand-wringing liberals who have empowered the child, the chav, the criminal, the terrorist, with more rights than other law abiding, hard working, tax paying individual.

Welcome to Britain 2k

Also a point of note, i would serve a sentence for introducing one of these cretins to my fave pair of knuckle dusters.

I think lazy parenting is to blame, parents cant be arsed to take the kids anywhere, introduce them to hobbies etc etc.

When i was a lad my parents took me footballing, karate, tennis, cricket, mountain biking etc etc as well as days out. may seem petty but you never saw me hanging round on street corners colouring peoples walls in with a permanent marker.

One thing i cant understand is tho, why these little flacid willys cant see what damage they are doing and how pathetic they look all dressed up in the same kappa pop-off tracksuits... They dont get to experience life. They dont realise that if they went and got themselves a job, they might be able actually spend thier time more productively than standing outside the beer off all night with a bottle of lambrini!

SO in closing i blame bad parenting, to many single mothers and young mother having children who are kids themselves. They do it because its a free ride, free house, free money they get the lot. Then thier kids will do it because they always follow suit and so on and so on. Stop giving so much to these people, make job seekers allowance only payable for up to a year!!! Any moron can get a job at morrisons. That will get them to sort themselves out.

I have to agree with you on this one,and i know they is a pair of stocks not being used in eccelsfield church that not doing nothing, they could use them.

But no something needs to be done as people like this get away with all sorts these days.

It is ultimately their parents at fault here..

BUT

We all have our share of blame as well.

How many times do you here " oh, they're only kids, leave 'em"

It has nothing to do with that they are bored etc...

Pure and simple, they are evil little b********ds who are constantly looking for the next target.

What next, 14 year old 'kids' comitting rape?????

My parents have lived on Carterknowle for sometime. They have had a spoiler ripped off the back of the car, numerous wing mirrors ripped off, graffiti scratched on to the car windows, and two cars broken into (one was mine and they didn’t get the alloys they were after :)).

Bus stops are scrawled with graffiti on a regular basis and have sometimes been smashed. It’s a good neighbourhood, but does seem to have a vandalism problem.

Lovely houses yes, decent area no. Even some loony lefty tree huggers I know have decided to call it a day and moved out.
