View Full Version : How do you deal with people who try & haggle with you at carboot sales? sunshiner 11-07-2005, 21:36 i hate cheeky sodds that try and give u 10p for summet worth £5 any ideas how to get rid of the a holes ? Chicago 12-07-2005, 04:36 Put up a sign that reads: All REASONABLE offers will be accepted. UNREASONABLE offers will result in loud uncontrollable laughter. CHEEKY, OBNOXIOUS offers may result in bodily harm to your person. owdlad 12-07-2005, 04:53 My answer would use two words and have three F's in the two words, the second word being off.;) Don_Kiddick 12-07-2005, 05:15 Exactly this has happened to us!! I said to the silly woman "so how much will it be on your stall in 10 minutes? off she toddled. We also had stuff nicked. Why do people steal from other people when they're obviously not a multinational corp with loss adjusters? DaBouncer 12-07-2005, 06:47 Don't be afraid to say: "I don't think so mate". I've done a fair few car boots and rarely people will pay what you ask. I used to price my items up visible so people can see my asking price. However I'd add a litle more on for the hagglers out there. So they see a DVD for £4 and they offer £3, I only wanted £3 for it anyway so they think they get a good deal I got my real asking preice. Jobs a good un! Lurch 12-07-2005, 09:42 Depends what it is and who it is, some people seem like nice people and you don't mind knocking a bit off. Some people just take the mick as some stuff I chuck in the car boot pile is decent stuff worth some money and I just take it because there is the odd person who will pay say 30 quid for a nearly new vacuum cleaner or 100 quid for a generator but some people seem to think that because it's at a car boot then it must only be worth 50p, they're the people that get told to (go away). I try not to upset too many people as I've got the business name splashed all over the car with phone numbers etc...! I do sometimes wonder why anyone wants to pay anything for some of the tat we get rid off but it makes us more money than throwing it in the skip so they're happy and I'm happy, it's just the principle of the thing. dollypeg 12-07-2005, 18:05 Always ask for more than you want to get for an item, let the customer knock you down to what you really want. They go away happy and you go away happy. you both win. |
