There are no as good all in one free security suites and £30 for 3 machines is not too bad.

AVG free, windows firewall(free with windows), firefox and the inteligence to scan anything you download before you run it and not visit most porn sites. is all anyone needs to keep free of malicious software.
symantec(norton) got greedy and lazy in the last few years. that's why they use unhackme to clear their corporate clients networks of infections.
but if you want to give em your cash for a false sense of security go right ahead.

I have always used AVG, Firefox, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Adaware, and countless other freeware security apps and indeed still do and I have had bad experiences with previous Norton apps but I thought I would try 360 v3 and I have been pleasantly surpised.
360 is low on resources and high on features and is all in one easy to use program and it has performed faultlessly on the machines it is installed on. I still use some of the freeware apps to double check after previous bad crap from Norton but this time round Norton has kept my machines clean as a whistle.
I know a few people who are using 360, some of them very clued up with computers and they have all said that Norton is very much improved.
It seems like some people wont try Norton again because they have had bad experiences with it before but there are also many people who have never tried it and simply jump on the Norton bashing bandwagon, a little bit like the pillocks who relentlessly harp on about Vista being crap just for the sake of it.
Will I buy it again when this license runs out, probably not because I will carry on using freeware security apps, it was just something to try that thankfully has worked brilliantly so jobs a good un.

ok AJ im not norton bashing just pointing out there is no reason to pay for that protection as its available free.
'in peace' im interested as to what made you make the jump from a perfectly adequate free protection system to paying for the same thing.
i recommend you don't label people who don't like Vista or Norton as Hillocks too as its possible for the autonomous admins here at the mighty Sheffield FORUM! to ban you with out a word of explanation, trust me i know from experience.

Your username and sig suggest you probably know a lot more about computers than I do so I wont argue about the technology side of stuff :hihi: A couple of people I know that are a lot more knowledgeable with pc's than I am had tried it and said that they were impressed how much it had been improved so I thought I would try it on the three pc's I have. I had a quick look at some reviews and a few of them said it was good for an all in one solution and that the three pc license was good value for money.
I have tried it and it has worked well but as I said It is the first time I have paid for protection and because of the standard of some of the freeware it will most likely be the last.
I am all too aware of how crap Norton has been in the past, I have been bitten before with it.

I have to agree with you on this.
I have Norton Internet Security 2009 no probs at all.
Nortons have taken on board all the things said about it slowing your system etc I personally am very happy with the product now.

From my own experience Norton is not so good neither for antivirus nor as a internet security service. It makes PC slow and not so effective to kill viruses. I refer you to use Kaspersky or NOD32. These wont make your PC slow. You can also use AVG. But I'd recommend you to use NOD32 as it is the best for me.

Funny though, 360 v3 is getting decent scores as an all rounder. Norton have made 360 extremely light on resources.

Get rid of it Apache... Norton are the biggest hackers going, they sell you antivirus software but will also charge you £65 pounds if you ever actually get a virus you need removing.

I use nothing but adware remover and avg and thats about as safe as norton without the hassle of sluggishness when its scanning.

Oh and the saying "theres no smoke without fire" springs to mind when IT forums talk about Symantic releasing modified viruses to cause issues with other antivirus software is a strong case against them too.

Symantec releasing modified viruses :hihi::hihi::hihi: really mate this is just the talk of linux type pc extremists with their ridiculous battle against big business none open source software developers, I heard it all myself at IT training
Adaware services uses more resources than my entire 360 suite does in the background, in fact on the three machines it is installed on you would be hard pushed to even see its cpu usage.
360 also gives me a monthly report on absolutely everything it has done and on my daughters pc (typical teenager downloading from all over the place and across messenger too) it shows me all the threats it has stopped in its tracks, if it had cost me £65 to remove each one of those then I would have to remortgage the house.
True to form it will turn into the usual PC World, Vista, Linux, Firefox, IE debates that inevitably end up with someone blaming Hitler.

Why? Whilst you're at it... which cliff should people jump off - and why?

If you can wait a bit, Microsoft are going to give away some free ant-virus, that tackle viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. Its not yet in beta, but I'm sure it will be good quality if its from Microsoft (i'd hope so anyway).

It is called Morro, and a link is here:

I just fixed a laptop with Vista and Norton 360 on it. The machine had got a few viruses and trojans and Norton just gave up and switched itself off.

Once I'd put on a quality AV - NOD32 - and cleaned up all the viruses, lo and behold Norton showed up again.

My latest laptop came pre installed with Norton and vista home premium, I couldnt get on with Norton as it was slowing my system down dramatically whilst out and about using my broadband dongle. I tried to remove Norton from my system and to a certian extent, got rid of it, after a small amount of hair loss ! but there are still elements of it left on my system that it wont let me remove no matter what uninstaller I try. Any ideas anyone ?
Presently I am using the free version of avast av and IObit advanced sysem care which is really good for a freebie..

Is it bundle in the PC you bought or you buy it separately? If it is package in the PC you both it is only a trial version that is good for 90days. If you bought it separately you should have 12 months free update and you can renew it before the end so you have continuous update.
