Woeful Second World War

'No child or adult should be denied the chance to see this: live theatre and history at its best.'
Times Educational Supplement

'This World War production is yet another superb example of history brought vividly to life by the BSC.'
The Stage

It’s pleasing to find a powerfully affecting theatrical endeavour that raises awareness of this devastating conflict among the young. Horrible, yes, but not trivializing history.'

Ooh tricky one! I'd either go back to Ancient Egypt and find out all the answers to mysteries that puzzle archaeologists today or to to the 1950's when life seemed slower and friendlier :)

I would travel back not to far to the time when the first boat set sail to austrailia. One of my old work collegues was one of the first passengers on the migration scheme when it first began, she recalls how exciting it was for a child of 5 to be on board this huge ship setting off on this wonderful adventure of how austrailia was full of all these weird and wonderful animals and things. It would be so interesting to see how excited everyone was and full of great expectations and then to actually see the reality of it all! i know its not that exciting but i would love to do it!

I would love to travel back to France during the French Revolution just so I could help the French royal family escape, just like the story of the scarlet pimpernel, fiction I know but I would like to be just like that.

It would have to be Ancient Greece with the magnificent white buildings against the blue aegean and meditteranean. The Great Philosophers, Gods and Mythology, the Olympics, the Spartans. The battle of Troy. The birth of democracy and the theatre - tragedy, comedy and satire. What an amazing, beautiful and creative thinking place to be.

hi, i'd travel back to 1939-45, although such a horrible time for the would it was also a period when many local communities pulled together, where you watched out for one another. i wouldn't want to be a great hero just someone who could do small things that could make a difference.

Just got back from the afternoon show - Frightful First World War - a fantastic afternoon had by all from start to finish. Class performances by all.

The sound was 100% quality for the whole duration of the performance. The great singing was a lovely surprise - what a talented bunch. Loved the audience participation, and the special effects during the second half were brilliant. The lady next to me was screaming and howling - had me in stitches! I must admit I dodged the shrapnel a few times! The kids loved it.

Don't rush out at the end if your'e going - it's worth stopping to listen to the 2 minute or so "don't sneak those glasses in your bag" hilarious and brilliantly performed announcement at the end - reminded me of Monty Python for some reason.

I tell you what it's a lovely retreat in the Lyceum on a hot summer afternoon, it was beautiful and cool and the staff are lovely. Thanks for a lovely experience. My son is already asking who's going with him to see the Woeful Second World War performance!
