I currently live next door to a property that is rented out. Its on a new housing estate, a really nice area. We have owned our house from new and the house next door has been rented by the same people since it was built. The people that live there have always been a little bit funny and disliked by most of the area. It has now come to the time when they are about to move on so I am wanting to make complaints about what they have done whilst being there. I do have quite an extensive list which I wasnt going to bother reporting until the last straw yesterday. I have contacted the letting agents who are getting in touch with the landlord. However they have told me that the damage that has been done probably wont get repaired by them or the landlord. Just wondered if anybody had any knowledge of this area, and what rights I have. And what as tenants they are expected to do to maintain the area they live in.

Any thoughts ASAP would be appreciated as they are moving in the next day or so.

Thanks a lot

we appear to have an increase of similar rental properties in my area, they are usually quite noticable due to the decline in the appearance.i think that most landlords prevent tenants doing anythng to them internally, but i think as they are usually only lets of 1 -2 years the tenants don't always bother with anything but the bear minimum of upkeep.

I doubt you're going to achieve anything by complaining as they leave, complaining earlier might have made a difference.

What damage is it that you're wanting repairing, to your property, to the rental property or to public property?

Specifically tenants are not required by law to do anything to maintain the area they live in, just as you are not. They are obviously restricted by whatever conditions the landlord imposes, and by criminal law just as everyone else is.
