It was a nice weekend and I took the family, well the wife and dog, out to the countryside and we walked. Probably about 15 Kilomtres according to the map.

What's the furthest you have walked?

When I was an apprentice at Vauxhall Motors in Luton the Apprentice Association, to raise money, organised a sponsered prampush. 3 in a team, One in the pram, the others pushing, yes we did alternate. We walked from Luton, thru Harpenden, St. Albans and up Edgeware Road to The Marble Arch and back. Total approx 100 Kilomtres.

(This along with train spotting and car number collecting I leave myself wide open at times.)

43 miles. I was so disappointed though, as I was doing a 50 mile walk at the time. My feet were still fine, but my calf muscles gave up on me.

I think it was about 25-30 miles (plus a lot of extra going up & down), the middle day of a three-day backpacking trip walking around the Black Mountains.

Probably the most knackering walk I ever did though was when I lived in London and missed the last tube home from Bond Street once. I walked down to Trafalgar Square, waited a few minutes for a night bus, got bored and decided to walk along the night bus route and catch one if it came along. So I walked from the West End, across the City, out past Aldgate along the Whitechapel Road/Mile End Road via Bow, Stratford, Leyton and eventually ended up back in Leytonstone some 3 hours later, and 10-15 miles, later. My bloody feet were killing me: walking on paving stones is a lot harder than walking on earth.

I imagine a lot of people in London had similar experiences last Thursday.

20 mile compass-bearing yomp across N Yorks moors with 50 lb pack in p**sing rain and freezing wind.

We were supposed to complete in six hours :loopy: - I managed less than eight :)

They had to send a chopper out to find one bloke, he was up to his waist in a bog :o

Reminds me of a time I was walking in Pembrokeshire with my then girlfriend. I always thought "Doctor Foster" was just a fanciful nursery rhyme, but she stepped in a small, insignificant looking puddle right in the centre of the well-worn footpath and she did indeed disappear "up to her middle".

I used to walk a lot and used to do it for pleasure so wasn't interested in the mileage but rather the interesting things I got to see on my travels. However my avrerage walking distance when in my walking stride would be about 25 miles a day.
In the past have done two long distance footpaths, the Cleveland Way which is very nice as it goes along the coast for half the route and the dales way another change of scenery from the Peak District. The Cleveland Way is I think 106 miles and the Dales Way 87 miles and we took a week to do them.
Never fancied the Pennine Way as that seems to be morre of an endurance test with far too much moorland walking which I used to get plenty of.

I was proud last weekend that I did 15 miles in the Peaks. Looks like I'm going to have to improve somewhat :)

The Annapurna Circuit last november, which is about 200 miles, or there abouts, reaching a hight of 5416 metres. One of the most amazing three weeks of my life.
