Although we are still hurting after being beaten by Chelsea in the Cup Final one little consolation popped up today in the news that Everton had the most players; pipping Liverpool's 3, in Sky's team of the year.

Some have pointed out that we might have made a bigger fist of it if Jags and Arteta had not been unable to play.

I know that we don't have the biggest squad, not having a multi-millionaire owner, but at least we played, bought and sold within our means.

You do realise that the preponderance of Everton players over those that actually won stuff is primarily evidence that Sky should improve the methodology by which they come up with a team of the year right?

Arteta over Ronaldo, Gerrard at CM when he spent the season as a forward... the teams a joke.

Maybe SKYs team of the year, but not mine.

This team was selected by the viewers of SKY!
How do you suggest SKY to improve its methodology, just ignore the viewers votes and pick the team that won the league ?
I don't think that any one in sound mind would call this a joke team, the players picked were all top class.

If they want to have a vaguely sensible team of the season that isn't largely a product of voting campaigns by supporters forums yes.

I don't think that any one in sound mind would call this a joke team, the players picked were all top class.
It's a joke for a supposed team of the season, it's not a bad team obviously but it's anything but the best the premiership has to offer.

That's a terrible team. It doesn't even make sense. Without placing players in a team I can't believe that I'm not seeing:-

GK: Schwarzer and Green
Defence: Vidic, Ferdinand, Hangeland
Midfield: Kuyt, Ireland, Cahill, Barry, Murphy, Lampard (As much as I can't stand him)
Forwards: Cole, Berbatov, Rooney, Robinho.

They're just a few players who I'd consider.

Well we all have our opinions, anyone can pick their own fantasy team; however this thread was about SKY viewers picking 11 players to constitute a team that could work well as a team.
It is hardly surprising to me that 'team players' were selected over 'star'players'

Berbatov....serious?

You may question that one but if it hadn't have been for Berba, Utd. would have struggled. He got a lot of key goals and assists mid season.

What "team players" like Anelka :loopy:

The notion that none of the Chelsea & United players missing from that 11 "work together" as "team players" is just absurd.

Rio & Vidic work together superbly & Evra works well with them and generally links up very well with whoever is in front of him.

Rooney is about as team minded as someone with his talent can be, constantly playing out of position for the good of the team and doing so brilliantly. He also works superbly with Ronaldo.

Any one could make a case for picking practically any player from the top finishers in the league, some of the lower finishing teams also have very good players.
However this was the team , like it or not, that was picked by the SKY viewers.
Where you get 'the notion' about Chelsea players is not from me. Chelsea beat Everton fair and square in the cup final.

So did Kevin Davies
Carlton Cole
Tevez
Andrew Johnson
Zaki
ect ect but i wouldn't consider them for a team of the season

That notion is directly from you, you attempted to defend the omission of the numerous Chelsea and United players who are significantly better than those in this team on the grounds that voters were concerned with "team players" over "star players".

A claim of yours which is simply laughable when the voters picked Anelka who is down there with Diouff when it comes to qualities as a "team player".

A claim which is also laughable when you consider just how hard and effectively many of the excluded "star players" work for their teams.

I made no such defence of other teams players being ignored.
I think that you put your own spin on what you assume other people think. We all do to some extent, but you are a little over the top.

I was merely bringing attention to a media poll which was favourable to my team Everton, Chelsea won the cup well. When a team does well it is fair to give praise.
Everton made a fair challenge in the premier league, and got to the FA cup final. Considering their small squad this was a good achievement.
The only real thing that is laughable is you carping on... looking for imaginary meanings in what I post.

If you weren't claiming that superior players from Chelsea and United weren't overlooked as they're 'star' rather than 'team players' then what did you mean to say?

And you accuse others of "looking for imaginary meanings"

Who said that Everton hadn't done well this season? To point out that Sky Team of the Year is absurd (which it is) and that it ommits many far superior players to those included is in no way to deny that Everton had a good season.

Mine would be:

Van Der Saar
Bosingwa Jagielka Vidic Baines
Ronaldo Ireland Gerrard Barry A.Young
Torres

SUBS: Hangeland, Evra, G.Johnson, Lampard, Anelka,

I will spell it out simply one last time for you, then I will get on with my life, try to forget losing in the cup final; and look forward to Everton doing well next season ok.

Right:
Everton have some good players, they play well as a team, and they obviously did not play as well as Chelsea in the FA cup final as they were beaten.

Consolation:
Sky viewers voted Everton team of the year (whether you think it absurd or not)
Meaning of what I say:
I believe that I speak fairly understandable English; most people can understand what I mean even if they don't agree with me.
I accused you, not others of finding the wrong meanings of my comments.

I may sometimes make a joke about another team or player, but it is only football, I am well aware; for instance if the Everton fans sing
"we are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen"
We are not being fully truthful.

The best team usually wins the league, the best teams are usually at the top of the league.
The problem that some people see these days is that only a few teams have the cash-backing to be able to afford the best players.

One of the reasons Everton were selected by the viewers is because this team cost a relatively small amount, gaining above average success for such outlay.
