Hi all,

I live in the little lakes off Abbeydale Rd, and someone mentioned to me recently that parts of the film Threads were actually shot on these roads. I've been scouring the internet for more on this, but to no avail.

Can anyone confirm whether this is true, or point me in the direction of more info regarding this?

Thanks

I'm sure on the forum there is at least another thread on the Threads film where locations are mentioned. I don't remember any of the filming taking place in the area where you live and although I've not seen the film in years can't say I recognised this area being used.

A lot of the "house" scenes were shot in the Hillsborough/ Owlerton area (Beulah Road etc)

Seem to remember the Royal Infirmary as a film site.

Do a forum search, you'll find it. A truly terrifying film. The Home Office were'nt too keen on the public seeing it when it first came out. Barry Hines showed it all, warts 'an all.

Some scenes of the main family's house were filmed in Hawksley Rd, Hillsborough, where I lived at the time. The BBC used my neighbour's house. Each day of filming, her living room & dining room furniture was moved out from her house, into the BBC van & the technicians moved the film set in. After filming, everything was moved back in, into exactly the same place it was taken from.

The BBC used my house in a scene showing the family's neighbours evacuating their home. The scene shows them driving off in their car & turning into either Cheadle St or Cannock St, which amused us, as both these little roads are dead ends!

The opening scenes I think were filmed at Sky Edge?

Me and my ex-wife were also extras in it. They filmed the panic scenes, as the 'bombs' were falling, on the Moor, and a there was also a demonstration filmed on the City Hall steps.

'Policemen' came to break the demonstration up, and the extras crowd were told to be hostile to them. Filming had to be stopped because some of the crowd got a bit too enthusiastic at attacking the 'police'.

I never actually saw the screening of it as we were abroad when it was shown.

We lived on Hawksley Road when it was filmed. One day my husband got up to go to work and they wouldn't let him for continuity as his car had been used in part of a shot.

We were also amused when the car tried to escape down a dead end. Did say though we'd have had better TV reception if they'd blown Regent Court flats up in real life!!!

Sheffield City Centre now looks like the set of Threads. I think they used the Moor on "Mad Max' as a set!

Much seems to be filmed in Broomhall - The Nottingham is the pub where the lads go drinking at the start (Joe from Corrie, et al) and the house the girl lives in is over that way too... I watched it just before Christmas, and I also now live on Abbeydale Rd and I didn't see anything of this part of Sheffield used in the film...
