Hi, can anyone advice on some good quality binoculars suitable for a safari please. I wanting to buy some, but don't want to spend a ridiculous amount. I'd say anything up to £100, I want something that will do the job well without costing the earth.

Thanks

Hi, I don't claim to be any kind of an expert, for that go to the binoculars section of birdforum.net (http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=112)

My better half recently bought a pair of 10x42s from this crowd on ebay for £119.

I would say 10x is about the maximum for handholding, you may be better with less if you are in a moving Landrover.

I don’t know what the quality control is like and whether her set is representative or not, but they do seem remarkable value for money. OK they are not quite up to my Bausch & Lomb Elites, they normally go for about £500 second hand, but stand up well to many mid range ones I've looked through.

The importers list them at £299.99

The street price seems to be about £240 to £250
