Ghostrider 04-06-2009, 09:44 But can u imagine the dregs that would go in to a weatherspoons at manor top!!!Oh hell yes, I remember what it was like when I was doing the karaoke there... spoonster 04-06-2009, 09:48 Wetherspoons ... ... ... the manor top .... ... ... they deserve each other!! Nowhere near that price http://www.businessesforsale.com/Elm-Tree-Delicensed-Pub-For-Sale.aspx £225,000 Ghostrider 04-06-2009, 10:04 Hmm, im fairly sure that in the contract there will be a clause that says the new owners cant use it a licenced premises again for X amount of time... That used to be standard in enterprises contracts....it may have changed now however. chem1st 04-06-2009, 10:09 I suppose it is needed, but I hope it doesen't affect the pubs further down the road. Theres good transport links to that pub anyhow, so people could come from quite a distance to have a few bevvies. I think it will do well there. I think it will do well there.I agree, it is easy to fear that because of prices practised by Wetherspoons the wrong clientèle would visit but think of the Woodseats Palace which is a Free House also and there are little problems. In fact problems arise more from The Woodseats than anywhere else there so why worry? Better Wetherspoons than Tesco on Manor Top... The General 04-06-2009, 10:47 it would finish up mlike the weaterspoons in rotherham town center. total **** hole roughy101 04-06-2009, 10:56 Hmm, im fairly sure that in the contract there will be a clause that says the new owners cant use it a licenced premises again for X amount of time... Its not a bad pub, that. Alemonster 04-06-2009, 17:15 I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I would welcome the re-opening and refurbishment of a long closed and rather seedly pub, and I have no problem with Witherspoons - it's just that I would be worried about who the clientele would be. If the pub emphasises real ale and meals and deals firmly with with potential or actual troublemakers, especially all day drinkers, it might be OK. Meaks 04-06-2009, 18:27 You talking about the Bluecoats? Its not a bad pub, that. Won't they be trying to target the social club customers for the most of time... Tipex 05-06-2009, 06:31 Bouncers on door hopefully to stop the troublemakers, altho i dont trust some bouncers anyway. Odd-jobs 05-06-2009, 07:03 The main question is will you still be able to get a cheap knocked off TV or DVD player. jaklucy 05-06-2009, 07:09 Troggy lives on Dagnam Road (back of manor top) across from mi mams, he usually stops in now as just gets abuse from the local youths 14 on to 1 (its good odds if you can get it) and was recently charged for giving 1 a slap as he'd had enough. Obviously the PC brigade got their way and troggy got charged but it was dropped when all the neighbours gave statements to defend him. and the social workers then gave the infamous speach about how the youth "was a mis-led and un-guided poor lost soul in the depths of this world" etc etc etc. the poor mis-guided little S*** is now in a youth offenders home for TWOC and theft. Bit of summary justice would have been better from troggy. LibertyBell 05-06-2009, 08:59 I think they'll be referring to the Rhinoceros. :gag: Ah. I think it would be good for the area. Just spoke to my mate who lives on the Arbourthone , he says he loves Wetherspoons but the idea of one at the Manor Top is not good as many post have said because of the people it will attract I thought Wetherspoons were opening a new pub on the site of the old Wards Brewery anyway ?????? the_bloke 07-06-2009, 20:55 I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. My wife spoke to one of the roofers who was climbing about on the Elm Tree a few weeks ago, and he said the place was a wreck and would need months to dry out before any work could be done on it. Personally, I hope no one buys it and they rip it down; I fail to see how the only pub at Manor Top could be anything but a magnet for dross, no matter what they do to try and make it a family pub. (and I live in sight of the Elm Tree). AY1975 09-06-2009, 19:44 It really would be good for the area. Let's just hope it will attract the right kind of customers! I think it would be popular with people from areas like Intake, Frecheville, Hollinsend and Gleadless who don't have many decent real ale pubs in their area at present. Most pubs in south-east Sheffield are either keg-only, or at best they do no more than pay lip service to real ale. There is the Gypsy Queen at Crystal Peaks, and the other one (whose name I've forgotten) next to Crystal Peaks bus station. And the Royal Oak at Intake and the Birley Hotel usually only have one or two real ales, if that. Br8inend 12-06-2009, 18:48 Poor troggy, AY1975 11-11-2009, 17:11 I've recently been in touch with Wetherspoons, and unfortunately they tell me that they have not bought up the Elm Tree after all - I guess they may have decided against it because of the state of the building. So instead it just looks set to stand empty for the forseeable future... holymoses 11-11-2009, 17:51 bugger............. sedith 13-10-2010, 09:48 it would finish up mlike the weaterspoons in rotherham town center. total **** hole Surely it couldn't be as bad as the Bankers Draft? |
