View Full Version : Norvern Spelling
DaBouncer 27-11-2003, 14:42 Throwing down the gauntlet to you lot.
How would you spell 'our' when said in the following northern dialect:
"Our Lass''
"Our Old Bird"
Our Kid"
Think yorkshire (south preferred) way of talking.
Would you spell it: "Ay" or "Ar" or what?
SaxonLeigh 27-11-2003, 14:52 i dint quite unda stand ya at first! i was going to say 'Ar' but when i said it to myself i sounded abit devonshire as in 'Ar trattor farmer' so now i'm saying 'Ay'
Ay and ar overcomplicate things. Try r lass, r kid, etc.:)
sammyBoy 27-11-2003, 14:53 If you are talking spelling, then I would write it "our lass".
If you are wanting it phonetically so someone else can sound like me then maybe "ahh lass"??
Wot, you mean like "r Kes"?
I tell thee, r Kes, it's reight ova theer in't watuh.
By 'eck, there's nought like it, dahn pit wi' a pint o'r'ale. Wippets n't flat caps, I tell thee, it's a reight'un, reight? Iy.
I always thought it was err in doors.
Stick too many 'r's in, and it becomes West Country. We don't want that now, do we?
tinajones 27-11-2003, 18:33 hey there DB, are you planing to write something Irvine Welsh style but it dee-daa speak?!

maybe like H'our because people often over-stress the 'H' even tho there isn't one! and it makes me laugh...

500 eh! Well done! Catching up with me eh. :P
How about just saying 'our'? It isn't pronounced like "ar" or "ay" so why phonetically spell it as though it is?

Tomaytoes, tomatoes... Nah that sounds to American.
We can't have that can we.
R kid sounds right though if you say OoR it becomes West Country.
