View Full Version : Being able to see what other members are reading on the forum
I noticed a few days ago, that if you click on a forum member who is logged in, it actually tells you what thread they are viewing?
I have started logging out now, when browsing, because I think that what I am looking at is my business, and if I want to comment on a thread then I will log in to do so.
Has this always been the same or is it something new?
Jayne
I know this is an old thread, but I'll answer anyway..
You can use invisible mode on here so no-one can see when you're online...
Click onto my control panel on the left, then click onto edit options and the very top box gives you the option to use invisible mode..
Just tick the box and hey presto..

I tried that, then asked my mate at the desk opposite if he could still see me and he said he could.
Call that an invisible mode? I want my money back!
also if you click on active members you can see what everyone is reading etc, its always been there

Its funny you should say this because yesterday I clicked onto a member, and saw that he was reading my thread entitled." What Women Really Want" even though he didnt post. I felt flattered rather than annoyed.:)
So invisible mode doesn't work in the way we think it should..
Sorry, jayne67.. Looks like I was dumb enough to think that invisible mode meant just that..
Definitely something you should look into you folks of SF don't you think ????

Only if they're not using invisible mode.

How do you think it should work? Invisible mode means that you don't appear in the 'currently active users' list at the bottom of the main forum page, you don't appear in the 'who's online?' list, you don't have the 'online' status next to your posts, and your current activity and last activity aren't viewable in your profile.
The admin folk can see your activity, I think, but neither the moderators nor ordinary registered users can (if I remember correctly from a post by JoeP a good while ago; it might have changed since then.)
Your own activity, when in invisible mode, is viewable. You have a little asterisk next to your name in the 'currently active users' list, for example.
