View Full Version : NHS Job interview!
julia2004 30-05-2009, 03:22 Hi,
I've got a job interview at NHS on monday for the position of Administrative Assistant. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or experience? Would I have to do a presentation/in tray exercise/any sorts of test?
It doesnt say much about the interview in the letter - just that it will consist of the manager and the officer!!
any help would be greatly appreciated!!
thank you!!!:)
freaklikeme 30-05-2009, 12:14 Ooh, will be keeping an eye on this thread as have also applied for admin work within the NHS.
Keep us informed how it goes Julia2004 and best of luck! :)

Hi Julia.
Congrats on the interview. Half way there!!
I've worked in the IT Department for the NHS, and also went for a couple of other interviews for different departments.
I didn't have to give any kind of presentation or do any tests. I know that Sheffield Hallam Uni have in tray exercises, but I think it will be a straight forward interview for the NHS.
It'll probably last about 30 minutes. If you still have a copy of the job description and person specification, read through them.
The person spec should state the qualities needed for the role, so expect questions that relate to this.
Try and prepare by thinking of plenty of examples you can give. Eg. How have you contributed effectively to a team in the past. Try and think of a few solid examples you can give to demonstrate your skills and abilities.
Overall, don't panic. At the end of the day, it's only a job interview. In the past, I've got really worked up over interviews, and ended up stuttering and making a show of myself. If you go into it with a relaxed attitude and positive frame of mind, you'll be able to get your personality and skills across to them.
Good Luck!!
julia2004 30-05-2009, 15:01 Hi,
Thank you SO much for the reply!! Hopefully its not gonna be competency based - i've got an exam on tuesday (day after the interview) and i am kind of focusing on my exam atm!!
i will defintaely read the job/person specification!!
thank you for the advice!! :)
Good luck with your interview!
I work for the NHS, at the Hallamshire as a Clinical Support Worker but am considering changing for something admin based. Would appreciate some feedback after your interview.:D
How much a year is the job you're applying for?
Queenie30 30-05-2009, 20:44 I have had a couple of interviews at the nhs, one didnt do a test, another did, the test comprised of copying a letter onto word, and the other was just importing data onto excel and then putting them in order, ie name date etc, easy peasy, though I must say I am very disgruntled at interviews at the nhs cause feedback was i did a good interview but they gave the jobs to someone who already had nhs experience!
Good Luck
just be confident and take your time answering the questions and you will be fine

freaklikeme 12-06-2009, 11:30 How long from closing date do they normally contact you??
Thanks
a couple of days from having the interview my friend says
freaklikeme 12-06-2009, 18:23 Sorry Ellis, I meant how long after the closing date did anyone find out they'd got an interview? The one I applied for closed just over a week ago.
it was a few weeks after the closing date
freaklikeme 12-06-2009, 20:23 Many thanks, won't give up hope just yet :)
Queenie30 19-06-2009, 21:51 did you get the job?
freaklikeme 20-06-2009, 11:25 Julia doesn't appear to be following this thread, I'd love to know if she got the job too.
Unfortunatly, I didn't get shortlisted for the one I wanted. Will keep trying though.
The majority of admin based possitions within the NHS are already taken internally, before they are even published externally!.. It’s a weird carry on!.. But on the plus side, once you’re in, it’s a job for life!
kingmully 21-09-2009, 21:24 does anyone know how they contact you if you dont get the job? i have had as interview on thursday and today is monday and have had no communication what so ever. should i contact them for feed back?
