I have an excellent admin/clerical background, 8 GCSE's and a degree and cannot get a job in Sheffield, despite interviews. Is the job market really suffering or is everything going internally?

View Full Version : Jobs, where are you? franksaysno 29-05-2009, 14:39 I have an excellent admin/clerical background, 8 GCSE's and a degree and cannot get a job in Sheffield, despite interviews. Is the job market really suffering or is everything going internally? tizhimi 29-05-2009, 14:42 It's because you didn't do 1/2 a GCSE in RE. I have found thats made all the difference on my CV :hihi: Don't worry- everyone is going through it, its nothing personal - its who you know not what you know. Brix26 29-05-2009, 14:45 Jobs are a bit thin on the ground now definitely, i've been looking for months now and have only had four interviews so far. franksaysno 29-05-2009, 14:46 It's because you didn't do 1/2 a GCSE in RE. If thats the case then why did I waste my time on education and work experience? This country is really awful... franksaysno 29-05-2009, 14:47 Jobs are a bit thin on the ground now definitely, i've been looking for months now and have only had four interviews so far. Have you tried any agencies? They seem to have less intelligence and education than me, not sure what they do to get their jobs  tizhimi 29-05-2009, 15:24 If thats the case then why did I waste my time on education and work experience? This country is really awful... Greatest lesson in life I have learned so far... Its not what you know but who you know... go4it 29-05-2009, 15:49 What is your degree in? There's plenty of jobs out there. You need to find them and show an employer your experience. If you wait for jobs to come to you then you will be waiting a very long time. Think differently - what area do you want to work in, what companies work in that area. Go to their website and check their recruitment pages. Not everyone advertises on Monster, some don't because it's too expensive. For admin check the council website - always lots of council admin jobs. In the mean time go and find a community group and offer them 4 hours of your time for free. Making leaflets, admin work etc. tizhimi 29-05-2009, 15:54 I would second what "go4it" says - community works says alot more about you than qualifications. It sys you are prepared to go the extra mile to help people Brix26 29-05-2009, 21:56 Have you tried any agencies? They seem to have less intelligence and education than me, not sure what they do to get their jobs  Yes, i'm registered with loads of the major agencies but they don't seem to have much on their books. I have all the job websites saved and check every other day, i've applied for loads and tailored my application for each job.. i have sent of countless applications to the council and universities etc. as they seem to be employing quite often.. still nothing. Although i do count myself lucky that at least i currently have a job. tizhimi 29-05-2009, 21:58 start a business! a ressession is the perfect time to start a business.
