It looks like Steve Bruce is going to Sunderland, on reading his profile it mentions his spell at United.

I can't remember much about that time, was he any good and why did he leave?

Not sure what he has done to get such a big job either.

I can't remember that much about his time at the lane but he didn't pull up any trees. I don't see him as a brilliant choice for Sunderland manager and can't see him taking them any higher than 9th/10th.

He left because he is a manager that needs a lot of money to spend and we did not have that. He does not stay at clubs long anyway. That said why go to a struggling premiership side when the team he has now is just finished mid tableish, Unless he been promised bucketloads of money, I know which team I would rather manage at the moment

Why did he leave you, did he go to Birmingham from you.

He was so insignifcant I can't remember much about him!

I think he went to Crystal Palace, and then swapped places with Trevor Frances at Birmingham.

I can't remember but that might be right 'cos he went from Birmingham to Wigan and managed Palace at some stage.

I seem to recall Bruce being guaranteed a large sum of money with which to buy new players (didn't he come in just after Spackman had his entire strike force sold against his will?), and resigning because he wasn't given it.

He does have an alarming tendency to actually expect the board to come good on what they promised him, and to refuse to stay on if they don't.

His one notable act at the Lane was threatening to take the team off the pitch in the FA Cup tie at Highbury, which led to the game being replayed... can't remember much else, so can't have been that great!

He has done a good job at Wigan, knowing he has to sell his better players each season - by all accounts, the new Sunderland owner is ready to pump serious money into the SoL, so may be his chance to prove himself with some money, for when Fergie leaves Man U...

Yeah I think it's a good move for Bruce just not really that good for Sunderland. Wigan don't really have the potential to go much higher than they are now without big billionaire money investment but Sunderland are a club with more potential - they'd pack in 48000 a week if they were doing well

I Can't see Bruce breaking into the top 8 any time soon tbh - Tottenham are settled now, Everton are, Man City are going to improve and Villa will probably be top 8 even if they lose Barry. The top 4 should remain the same with Arsenal the weak link in it again.

If my memory ses me right, he walked out on United saying that he was going to a bigger club that club was Huddersfield, was the first Judas, he eventually got sacked by Huddersfield when they got relegated and I believe United got promoted a couple of seasons later (could be wrong tho)

According to Wiki after he stayed at Bramall Lane and Huddersfield for just one season each, he joined Wigan in April 2001. The team reached the Second Division play-offs but lost in the semi-finals, and Bruce quit after being in charge for less than two months, to take over as manager of Crystal Palace.
Bruce then went on to tender his resignation less than three months into the season in order to go to Birmingham City as manager.

I can see a pattern emerging here.

very much so -there was no one more loyal during his years at Old Trafford
