View Full Version : Songs begging to be covered
Ousetunes 09-07-2005, 08:17 A recent thread has posed the question something along the lines of 'What's your favourite cover version?' Along similar lines, my question to you intelligent bunch is this: What song do you think would suit a present-day group/artist/dancer/tea-boy?
The 'logic' behind my thinking (no, don't laugh, not yet) is that an old Leo Sayer song, released in 1980 called 'Thunder in my Heart' would have made an absolute top song for a trashy boy band to cover, especially an up and coming one. Still would, infact.
Recently, another song has sprung to mind and it's another cheesy outfit I'm afraid (no, not my yellow dungarees): Bucks Fizz. In 1982 they had (I think their last) top ten hit with a mostly a capella song called 'Now Those Days Are Gone'. This, in my most humblest of sun-blessed opinions would make a great track for Liberty X to cover, because they're as fond of their harmonies as I am of my egg sandwiches.
Listen up guy and gals! Which song would you put forward as just crying out to be covered by a bunch of muppets in order to see it sitting atop the Top 40? (<<< that's a personal joke btw).
Feel free to include obscure album tracks, but Revolution #9 by the Beatles I doubt very much would suit McFly...., (Travis, maybe.)
Ousetones ,
I know this is not exactly what you asked for , but would it be possible to cover every rap song in about 4 tons of concrete and then tow it out to the mid-Atlantic , somewhere.
The repetitive monotone sounds are like something from a broken boiler. I suppose we could , sort of , "package " them and sell them to countries who want to frighten birds away from airports or something.
How adults can , "listen" to such drivel , hour after hour is beyond normal human understanding.
spyro2000 09-07-2005, 17:03 Im with Far east except replace the word 'rap' with Rock, Country, pop, emo, etc.

Their brains get numbed into acquiescence - that's my theory

Yeah , Starsparkle ,
They reckon primitive tribes could induce a self-hynosis by playing repetitive sounds over and over again.
The same principle with movement is said to give the Whirling Dervishes their inspiration to be able to whirl around for hours.
So ,yes , I suppose the monotous beat of Rap music could induce a sort of mental numbness. Perhaps that's why so many of them clutch their groins--------to give themselves a bit of a break from the sheer monotony.

Well, it's certainly a theory!

tslogf74 09-07-2005, 22:24 I've always fancied doing a punkier version of the theme from The Littlest Hobo - Maybe Tomorrow. I do believe it's been covered but it always sounds exactly the same to me.
Ousetunes 11-07-2005, 07:24 Fareast, you have a very valid point (and needless to say, I totally agree with you).
I have this theory that if we/I/you end up in Hell, then not only will you have to suffer the Everlasting Fire but also there will be rap music ('music'?) playing in the background - for the rest of your fried to bits life.
I'm asking for my sins to be forgiven right away. The thought of that dirge resonating round the place is torture in itself.
Yes , Ousetones , I don't suppose they'd need much in the way of Fire and Brimstone , if the Devil was a Rap Fiend.
I'm trying to think of an equivalent torture in literature , films , art ......etc
A book that repeated the same sentence over and over again ?
A film showing a man endlessly eating a piece of bread ?
An everlasting Art gallery showing exactly the same picture ?[Two cows in an otherwise empty field ?]
I suppose , going on current trends , there'd be no shortage of public watching ,looking and reading.

Those Mr Men books were a bit repetitious weren't they? No, the nearest equivalent in print would have to be the Phone Book, probably one that covered the whole world.
As for TV and film, it would be the shouting of Miseryenders against a backdrop of a TV test card, the multi-coloured one, albeit screened through a black and white television.
With a few 'urghs' and 'yo, check it outs' thrown in for good measure, naturally.
