Can anybody remember the name of the bus company that ran the old Fifties style single deck buses through Kiveton in the Sixties and early Seventies? Kevin.

Hi Owdlad, Long time no see. Don't get chance to get on the puter lately Booth and Fisher used to pick me up at my front door there at Mansfield rd. Good fellas they used to help me on the bus with the kiddies and stroller. I was a regular every Frid morning I used to visit my dad on the Manor. Sometimes it took 3 bus rides to get there, just forgot what the connections were. there was the Chestfield bus there too.

Hi Kev, i think it might be wigmores they ran quite old buses in the seventies but not sure about the sixties. they had a garage on dinnington main street and used to run a dinnington to sheffield service which run through kiveton park.

Hi, There was also kirkbys ran along side Booth and Fisher and so did Wigmores. Wigmores didn't last as long as the other two companies.

Wiggies buses used to go to Sheffield through Laughton & Thurcroft past The Chequers pub run by Arthur & Sue Wigmore - son & DIL of the bus company owners. Routes 6 & 19 ran from Dinnington to Sheffield. No.6 ran through Darnall, 19 through Woodhouse to the Manor? etc.

Wigmores didn't have a service through Kiveton Park in the 40s or 50s. There was in the earlier years an occasional single decker Sheffield Transport bus on one of the routes, and of course as has been said, Boothies ran all single decker buses, but only from Beighton or Halfway to Worksop.

Kirkby's did run a service to Worksop, but I do not know where it started from. They used coaches rather than the common or garden bus body ones used by Booth and Fisher. They seemed to have a very spasmodic service too in that they didn't run every day, or have a timetable as such. I wonder whether they had an agreement with Booths to help out when buses were off the road. Mind you, they didn't use the normal Booths route from Kiveton, through Harthill, Thorpe Salvin, Shireoaks and Haggonsfield - before it had its name changed to Rhodesia - but went straight on up Red Hill, past Kiveton Park Station, over to South Anston, past the Church and to Worksop by the A57.
