Les Gray - died a couple of years ago. Altogether now...

Well that's neat, that's neat, that's neat, that's neat
I really love your tiger feet ....

There were several acts in the 70's that were throwbacks to an earlier time

Mud
Alvin Stardust
Shakin' Stevens
Showaddywaddy (spelling ??)

Cols, you missed The Rubettes - Shame on you, man!

'Sugar ba-by love, sugar ba-by love, I didn't mean to make you blue'.

Hands to crotch and screech high falsetto chorus.

Ouch!

PS Shakin' Stevens, for all his efforts was a 'product' of the 1980s.

PPS Open mic night in the Bull's Head tonight Saturday 9th July. You coming?

If you play Les Gray and Elvis back to back they sound nothing like each other.

There were one or two that made the big time that did, Terry Stafford's version of 'Suspicion' is very Elvisesque and The Pelvis himself said that Ral Donner and his version of 'The Girl Of My Best Friend', written by Bunny Lewis incidently, was more like himself than he thought he was. Elvis later went on to record the song himself.

Then THERE was always PJ Proby!!!!!!

The most supremo Elvis sound alike was Jimmy Ellis aka Orion. It was said that some of Orions recordings were actually Elvis. This was complicated as Orion also recorded for Sun records. There are trax avail able where he has been dubbed on some ealier recordrings such as The Killer Diller, Jerry Lee Lewis. Try and get hold of a copy of 'Save The Last Dance For Me' by Jerry Lee and someone else. Now THAT sounds like Elvis. The amazing thing is that Orions voice was natural, he wasn't trying to sound like Elvis.
