View Full Version : Josephines in the 80's Monday nights .....
discovery 25-05-2009, 15:18 Wouldn't it be brilliant if Dave Allen resurected Josie's as it was back then or did a reunion event for all us 40 somethings who used to dance to the likes of
Odyssey
Luther Vandross
Shalamar
Even now when we have parties and special events, it always comes up in the conversation as the highlight of our life in the 80's.
Josephines was a classy nightclub - I don't think anything will ever come close to it.
Angilaruk 25-05-2009, 15:55 It was full of 10 bob millionaires with chest wigs and chocolate medalions. Never had a good night out there to be honest.

"Posers" is a matter of perception.....I'll totally concede on the "beer" though! ;)

I was too busy dancing to notice the posers you speak of and as for the beer can't comment as wasn't there for that either.
Just there to dance, dance, dance
Do any ladies remember that lovely old lady who used to keep the toilets clean and she had perfume, curling tongues and hairspray? She was a lovely woman.
I had loads of fantastic nights there, probably the best nights out of my life so far. Me and my friend used to play the 'pulling' game. Just used to see how easy it was to 'pull' just for the fun of it lol... It was most entertaining .... and not too difficult! :D Though she used to win most of the time as she had really big boobs! :o
Can anyone remember the doorman 'Big Jim' and Robbie who wouldn't allow us to take drinks on the dance floor?
and how we used to dance around our handbags .............

I used to enjoy Scamps though aswell on Friday nights.
Hi if you want to hear that type of music have you tried Jocosa on West St next Tesco ? The music is very good on Fridays.... I think you will be very surprised with the quality and the range of 60's, 70's & 80's soul music played. Plus it's free all night to get in
crackerjack 26-05-2009, 17:18 never missed a night for years, liked scamps aswell, as for posers, if you call a better class of people and never any trouble posing , ok.
rachelstocks 02-03-2010, 09:43 Anyone remember a guy from late 70's early 80's named ray, portugese/spanish/italian descent. slicked back hair, olive skin. Bit of a ladies man. Used to hang around with some latin american guys- Victor, Juan? If anyone has any info or may know someone who knows/knew him, please contact me.
Thanks

Brenda.
I remember Alistair one of the bouncers i think.
Mrs H Solo 03-03-2010, 13:02 OMG, trip down memory lane. I didnt think the old posers comment would be here though, what a laugh, as if people from Sheffield would do such a thing. I was Scamps/Josies girl, and 30 years later still striking a pose and dancing round my Moschino in my Manola's! Love it!

I was in scamps and josies at the same time as you and enjoyed every minute of it. Dave Rothwell was the manager of scamps and Joe Durrant was the boncer.
Time just passed too quickly, I remember saying to my pals "look at all these old blokes about 35", before I knew it I had become one of them.

You never think of being old when you are young and having fun, every day is just made for partying. I dont think the same can be said of todays generation of young people, they have too many pressures. I lived to go out to night clubs and hardly ever stayed in. Is that why I never had any money?

I was the same spent every penny having the time of my life.
As I remember it, it was full of pompous posers who thought they were far too cool to move. Although the spontanious burst of Jose-esque head nodding whenever luther came on was highly amusing.

i bet you loved Roxy's ?
Chrissie G 03-03-2010, 21:06 Absolutely loved Josies - had many a great night in there with my friends. I loved everything about it, including the lovely lady in the toilets with all her sprays and lipsticks etc. To me, originally coming from a small town, I thought it was really glamorous! I loved it and have many happy memories of our nights in there. Happy Days!

They were happy days, I still have the legs I had back then, they just dont work as quickly!
i too spent many nights in josies. i loved to go in the wine bar when the snooker was on at the crucible. Met many snookers players and big Ron . There should be a club for over 40's to go that played 60's and 70's music so we could go and pull and dance .... in that order....
roughy101 04-03-2010, 18:41 i was always in josies in the 80s,remember dave growns, rod johnson, robbie and carole the managers ,lisa and joan in the restautant, dave alan used to arrang ladies day trips to ascot and send john the chef with us to prepare fresh salmon strawberrys and ice cream and champagne and caviar, there also used to be a VIP party every year for all the VIP members.we all used to drink in the wine bar,big sue little sue ,linda ,katie and carole who all went in together.
