Smitch has started going out again now and started toiletting outside again.

However - today she has weed in the office (not somewhere she was toiletting before when she was doing it indoors) on some papers that were on the floor and it's a dark brown colour.

From a quick google it could be anything from crystals or a UTI to liver disease and blood in the urine...

Do I leave it til Tuesday, look for other symptoms (if so, which ones) or do I take her to an OOH vet?

She's 12 years old, doesn't seem to be off colour but usually sleeps all day anyway and hasn't lost/gained weight particularly in the last couple of weeks.
(She put weight on after Smudge died but has just maintained since then)

Thanks

Lily has had cystitis a couple of times. This was very brown in colour, and she would only do very small amounts. She ended up doing it in the dogs bed all the time . 1st time i took her to the vets-but 2nd time i didn't as it was something that the vet advised cleared up itself. The darkness is a sign of dehydration. I personally wouldn't take Lily to OOH but she is only 5, and ive had vet advice before.

Sorry this still hasn't answered your question!

Ooooh dear, poor Smitch.

Are you sure that there's blood in there?

Cat urine is normally much darker than human urine (little furry kidneys are 60 times more efficient than ours) and if she's had a day of not drinking much then it could be very dark indeed and in itself that's no reason to worry.

If she's OK in herself and you're not seeing crystals or blood in the urine then I wouldn't go running to the vets, not even on Tuesday possibly.

Warning signs are things like frequent squatting and trying to urinate, crying when trying to urinate and spots of blood within the urine. Generally blood is in streaks or spots within the urine, rather than mixed evenly in and making the urine colour darker, if blood is present.

So if she's not showing signs of abdominal pain, pain on urination or fever and she's eating, drinking and all the rest then I wouldn't fret too much about her.

No - it's dark brown, I haven't seen blood in it Medusa.

I've been in touch with the vet nurse who I used to work with and have checked for different signs.

She's been sleeping all day but was lively enough when I tried to look at her gums  which don't appear to be pale, her eyes are normal and she's been drinking but not excessively.

I've not noticed her squatting and she's gone back to sleep now (her favourite past time).

I'm sure she's fine - will keep an eye on her in case of cystitis, I think I'm worrying more because of Smudge - her symptoms started with weeing in strange places and she went downhill so quickly.

Thanks.
