devonmiles 24-05-2009, 13:20 Does anyone know where i can get a fluffy kitten from? i was supposed to get one last week but the lady let me down.
We have a cat friendly home and garden etc....
I have tried a couple of shelters but they arent fluffy enough!!:help:
By fluffy do you mean one that will grow up as a long haired cat?

Have a look at http://www.felines4us.com/Members/102/A2008104144819.jpg
They are loving and caring cats, mine doesn't make any noise unless very distressed.
Ragdolls are lovely too, my mum has one hes huge! 9 years old and runs the house!!
Please be aware that a very long haired cat is a serious commitment in grooming. They are totally unable to look after their coat themselves and they can end up in a real state within a couple of weeks if they aren't groomed daily to keep the knots at bay.
If you're looking for a long haired kitten please learn about grooming and get grooming tools before you get your kitten so that when they arrive you're calm and comfortable with combing them daily and keeping their coat in good condition. If you only comb your cat when they have knots then of course that will hurt them and they will regard grooming as a painful necessity (and cats in pain get sharp!). If, however, you treat grooming as a lovely daily opportunity for a whole body cuddle which also happens to include a little grooming then your kitten should grow up with this being normal and completely unscary.
I hope you find a suitable purry furry soon.
MARY POPPINS 25-05-2009, 16:53 Have to agree with medusa,I've got a Ragdoll and a Maine coon both adorable cats and VERY fluffy, but you do have to be prepared for the grooming, and like she says no good deciding to do it when its all matted it has to be done very regularly.
I know of someone with apersian who simply cant be bothered to brush her, and when shes in a state takes her to the vet,so the poor cat has to have anesthetic and be shaved, just because somebody cant be bothered to give the care a long haired cat needs
But I hope you find a kitten, but there are lots of other beautiful cats out there
Moonbird 25-05-2009, 18:17 I agree with everyone else long haired cats are hard to keep tangle free, I have 2 semi long haired cats with quite different fur types one is easy to groom and manages to not get matted much anyway.
The other one absolutely hates being groomed even though I did it from a kitten, she does not suffer fools lightly and is quite persuasive with her claws and teeth when she has had enough which is usually within a few seconds :hihi: to make matters worse her fur is very fluffy similar to a rabbits and it mats incredibly easily, so you definitely need to realise that a long haired cat is not an easy pet to keep.
I know a lady who runs a small rescue who has long and short haired kittens for rehoming, various colours, give her a ring on 07960249551
devonmiles 26-05-2009, 12:53 Thanks,I didnt actually ask for a long haired cat!!! i wanted a fluffy one!

LitleMermaid 26-05-2009, 13:07 They were only offering advice devon :) I'm very lucky, Maddie is extremely fluffy, but will sit next to her brush until you take notice of her and give her a groom! Even though she really doesn't need doing three times a day :hihi:
MARY POPPINS 26-05-2009, 16:14 Sorry to ask but what is a fluffy kitten, they all seem fluffy when they are babies
LitleMermaid 26-05-2009, 17:21 MP I don't know either, I'd take "fluffy" to mean "long haried" too.
We must be lucky because our 3 semi-long haired Norwegian Forest Cats have pretty much tangle-free fur (a feature of the breed- shiny silky top coat to keep out the wet and a thicker woollier undercoat to keep them warm in their native country) and none of them need a lot of grooming. The Maine Coon is more tangly but none of them are very labour intensive when it comes to grooming. I've had long haired moggies that have caused me more grief to groom - and a fair few short haired ones as well, but typically, longer haired cats need a lot more attention and will leave a lot more loose fur on your furrniture, so I hope you're not too precious about furballs sicked up on your lovely clean cushions..
Our most challenging feline is our senior moggie Minty- her short coat has a a thick undercoat that takes some thinning out and she doesnt make it an easy job.
MARY POPPINS 26-05-2009, 17:39 My ragdoll loves being brushed you only have to show her the brush and she practically brushes her self walking back and forth under it, but her coat is much more fluffy than my mainecoon his is long and sleek but still needs grooming
LitleMermaid 26-05-2009, 17:45 Maddie is like that MP, she loves it on her face, I'm terrified she's going to take her eye out jumping up at it one of these days, it's one of those wire ones that are quite sharp!
Funnily enough, the cat that most enjoys being groomed is Aero the Havana - whose suede-like coat is barely long enough to brush. Amber and Arnie run a mile when they see the grooming bag, can't imagine why, so we have to brush the dobermutt to make it look as if we'd had no intention of combing a cat until one of them is daft enough to come back close enough to grab...Arnie, usually - Wegies are adorable but totally gullible.
My Tiffy has always loved being groomed and rubs the brush too, but these days she doesn't have much to groom as her fur has got more and more sparse as she's got older. The funniest and loveliest thing in the world is that I've always given her a massage as part of grooming and she lies down for me to check down her legs (and she LOVES having between her toes rubbed- lies with her toes all splayed out to be rubbed between the toes) but when she's over on her back she can't purr properly and can only grunt. It's the sweetest little noise, and she's obviously happy as a pig in muck while we're having our cuddle/groom/massage.
I groomed at the Shelter for almost a decade and I felt so sad for all the cats who were scared about being groomed. Poor little mites would get so stressed and it's no good trying to explain to them that I'm not going to hurt them.
I had a fur matt which covered the whole of the cat's body and came off in one piece when he was shaved, so I mounted it on a poster so it could go up on the wall to show prospective adopters how much of a state long haired cats could end up in. We had before and after photos too, complete with the cat wearing his babygro because he was entirely bald from the neck down!

Oh I didn't know that - Loki HATES being groomed, but his coat so far is lovely. We do bath him though at least once a month - wonder if that helps.
Moonbird 26-05-2009, 19:57 Thanks,I didnt actually ask for a long haired cat!!! i wanted a fluffy one!

Why would anyone know know that you have kept long haired cats? and fluffy kittens do tend to turn into long haired cats, people are just trying to help because they care.
No need for the loopy smiley!
djelibeybi 26-05-2009, 22:30 Jackie Longley at Cat Abuse Treatment Society has some young adult cats and kittens up for adoption. She asked me to put them up on here today: CATS - cats and kittens seeking forever homes (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=484254)
I'm hoping to get photos up as soon as possible.
