Nice to see children using the forum for their school projects and I hope you get lots of responses.
Plain Talker 08-07-2005, 12:35 What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
more police, doing what they did with that drug dealing couple the other day, when the house was "shut down" and a n asbo was placed on them
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
sharrow/nether edge not a lot to improve really, where I am is a nice quiet area, you wouldn't thnk it was so near the city centre, it has a good community spirit, lots of diversity, i love it
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
it doesn't AFFect me much at all, where i am is very quiet.
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
Sheffield is a fantastic city, i love it. it's got a good combination of modernity and the historic:- love it, just love it!
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summary in which you can imagine it like?
I imagine it will be not vastly changed from the way it is now.
the Sheffield of 20 years ago is only really different than now, in that we now have the supertram.... supoertram will still be there, and we will have the new retail quarter up and running in 20 yrs time.

Captain_Scarlet 08-07-2005, 13:07 What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
Some council employees to clean the council's streets .
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
Meersbrook. I would not withdraw all bus services in the area from 1st August. I would not build a supermarket on the Arnold Laver site. I would resurface all the roads and remove the speed bumps and chicanes.
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
I believe whensomeone breaks the law they're sposed to get caught and sentence. So get police to catch them, and put them in a hole.
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
What do you mean by modern ?
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summrary in which you can imagine it like?
Hopefully more or less the same as it is now minus the dissagreements. sheffield will still be a labour stronghold. Council taxe would have prolly doubled, there won't be any buses, First will by then gone to higher places. Holes will have doubled in size.
What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
* More police on streets.
* Better response times by police to reports of suspicious/criminal activity.
* Harsher sanctions for perpetrators.
* City Centre Ambassadors given clear powers when dealing with incidents in the City Centre.
* City-wide, well funded rehabilitation schemes for drug offenders.
* Start from school level and scare the school kids into not getting involved. (i.e. Make them spend a night in a prison or similar.)
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
I'm from Norton Lees. Only thing I would improve are the gangs of youths which seem to congregate on Friday nights. Majority of the kids don't cause hassle, a minority do and people around here are starting to get frustrated with them.
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way does it affect you and please state your reason?
It doesn't around here. My opinion of cruises is: if you're going to cruise, please do it in something more impressive than a Saxo or Corsa :) Most of the "modded" cars are laughable. Why ruin a perfectly decent car with carbon fibre crap stuck all over it? Rant over, next question...
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
For many people who can afford it, Sheffield is, but where is the affordable housing for young upstarts? Forget yuppie flats and build more cheap homes for first time buyers.
Also, many areas of the town centre could do with sprucing up. The cheap shops are starting to move in, and although they serve a purpose, more and more people will be pushed to Meadowhell. Something needs to be done to reverse this before it's too late. IMHO, town has never looked better but it could still be improved to give it a more of a "continental" feel. But there's been enough said about that on this forum already...
Can you imagine Sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summary of what you can imagine it being like?
Hopefully...
*Town will have being fully regenerated and the cranes will have gone.
*Established, working and useful transport system (well, surely they can sort it in 20 years!).
* All areas of town and surrounding areas are linked with attractive walkways and green areas (think along the lines of what they're doing at the train station.) Possibly, Ecclesall Road and London Road having better pedestrian links to town to make them feel more like the city centre.
* A South Sheffield hospital perhaps? If the city is going to grow, surely two hospitals are not going to be good enough and it sure is a trek from here in Norton Lees to the A&E at the Northern General.
Hopefully not...
* A major Government rethink of policy means that University is no longer a widely chosen option for young people. Town will be full of flats that no-one uses and Sheffield's economy would potentially suffer.
* First Mainline still running the buses.
* Town full of £1 shops (or equivalent in 20 years time) and more out of town shopping centres springing up.
* Sheffield's parkland being sold off to building contractors.
I can't see Sheffield changing too much, I just hope we have more of the first list than the second.
spyro2000 08-07-2005, 13:29 What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
I suggest they SYP start from the top and crackdown on those supplying the drugs in the 1st place
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
From Birmingham but live in Wybourn. Not much needs improving but imo there are a minority in the area who spoil it for the rest, ie loud scooter riders, druggies etc, so there are a lot of people in the area who need ASBO's
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
It doesnt effect me and loud music doesnt bother me, your only young once, although when playing music loud I think common sense and a bit of decency should say turn it down when either going slow or stationary in residential areas.
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
Not particularly no.
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summrary in which you can imagine it like?
In 20 years time I think Sheffield will be a city full of over priced apartments, no parking spaces in or around town AT ALL, and not one person being able to get on the housing ladder, unless you are loaded.
muddycoffee 08-07-2005, 13:43 What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
MC - Crackdown of use of drugs in pub toilets, and prescription drugs and management for users to prevent theft for financing drug supply
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
MC - I am from Hillsborough And I live in Woodseats so I reply for woodseats. More litter bins, residential parking scheme [due to ridiculous amount of parked cars not belonging to residents, and from Local car dealership, on residential streets] Less fast food shops and charity shops, and maybe financial incentives for people opening useful decent shops. And Terribly important resurface all sheffield's roads, they are an utter disgrace and extremely hazardous.
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
MC - I find loud music and chavved up cars a little irritating, and maybe there should be a noise limit, but It isn't a priority worry of mine.
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
MC - No. Sheffield is a friendlier city than most modern cities. And the town centre is still a ghost town outside shop hours and normal pub times. Most people go home to their own space, sheffield is not a 24 hour city.
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summrary in which you can imagine it like?
MC - I think we will have many larger office buildings, and there will be many very cheap city living apartments as people find they will prefer to live in quiet houses again and there is much less demand for them than now. Smoking will have been banned in pubs for 15 years. And all pubs will be packed and there will be much less of them due to the damage done to the pub industry by the PubCos. Many old pubs will become large houses and shops. Meadowhall will be slightly larger than it is now, and Orchard square will have been closed due to the rents being too high in town centre. The supertram, unfortunately will not have been extended at all, and all busses will all run on hydrogen cells. And much less people will be able to run private cars due to the expense of fuel. Light scooters will be popular, for transport, which will run on biofuel. Many buldings will have solar panel windows and compact wind turbines on their rooves which will cut down on heating and lighting bills.
Just like today there will be a class of poorer people who don't have the opportunities that most of the population have. And there will still be some violent crime and people misbehaving on drugs and drink etc.
badboyracer 08-07-2005, 14:26 thanks guys keep them commin and i will read em all
What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
legalising all drugs would cut crime in an instant. The police could then turn their attention to traffic issues & litter picking.
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
Meersbrook: Better recreational facilities (sports centres - not private gyms), less traffic, more and later busses, better/faster removal of flytipping
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
I've seen meetings in carparks, I hear s**t thumpity-thump music while out and about, I've forever got some young dick driving on my bumper. I wish all "boyracers" types would do a ton into a brickwall
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
We're getting there.
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summary in which you can imagine it like?
The well off will be living in secure plastic bubbles, while the poor fight each other for the last scraps of food and petrol. Robocops will execute anyone without an Id chip and we'll all attend cyberchurch on Sunday on pain of death. The Hypertram will connect Meadowhall directly to S10/S11, The higher peasant class will shop at Netto & Job-Lot and everyone else will be cannibals
badboyracer 08-07-2005, 14:41 hey norbert im from nr job lot yes that true wat u say
Amyvictoria 08-07-2005, 14:44 What would you recommend to clean up the streets of Sheffield with crime and drugs?
I think that the best thing that could be done is to legalise all drugs. Prices would come down – thus reducing the amount of crime perpetrated to pay for hard drugs. The “doing some thing forbidden” factor would be reduced and so cut down the amount of drugs that are taken. People who do choose to indulge would also be assured of the quality and quantities of substances they are taking and so reducing the harm drug use can cause. The police would be freed up to deal with real criminals not just people taking an illegal substance. Supply would be taken out of the hands of organized crime and the government could benefit from tax which would more than pay for services for drug uses. Which already have to be paid for with no tax contribution from the sale of the substance. Of course there will always be people who would have problems with their substance use but plenty of people have problems with alcohol for instance. Prohibition of alcohol in the USA never worked why do we think that it is a good idea for any other substance her? Just as an interesting point the drug KHAT (used extensively in Somali and Arabic communities) is completely legal here but the equivalent of a class A drug in the USA. It would be interesting to study patterns of use and problems in the two countries over time.
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
I live in Stocksbridge. I’d improve it by providing a frequent, reliable bus service to Sheffield and surround. I also wish it was more multi cultural, I’ve only lived here a year and I miss that.
Most people complain about boy racers in Sheffield playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
It doesn’t affect me at all. I can see if it was going on near your home it would be very annoying and stressful.
Do you reckon Sheffield is a modern city for living?
Yes. We have just about everything we need. A larger selection of live theatre would be nice and a better public transport system outside of the immediate city centre would be nice.
Can you imagine Sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summary in which you can imagine it like?
Hopefully it will be really nice but I have my doubts about all the flats which are being built. If houses prices fall even slightly I can see a lot of them ending up empty. I am also concerned about the amount of demolition of social housing by the council. Working in this area I can already see the pressure on housing stock – people having wait a long time for any property, people living in inappropriate housing etc.
muddycoffee 08-07-2005, 14:53 I have had another think about the city apartments and I think that people in 20 years will only want to live in new ones which have been built with the latest technology. The ones being built now will be demolished, and a mix of family houses with gardens and new apartments will be built on their sites.
RockDrummer 08-07-2005, 16:46 What would you recomend to clean up the streets of sheffield whith crime and drugs?
You can't clean up the streets with crime and drugs, totally the wrong tools altogether. Might be better to use detergent, Police, and a judicial system hell bent on taking law breakers out of society and into new prisons. And who said legalise drugs to cut the crime rate? Yeh right, lets legalise loads of other stuff too and the crime rate will virtually disappear - to hell with the knock-on effects.
Which area are you from and how would you like to improve it?
Walkley, originally. Make Bole Hill School a school again. Make Walkley Club into a live music venue, it's dying on it's feet. Take the tarmac off Lark Street to reveal the cobbles.. nowt wrong wi them cobbles.
Most people complain about boy racers in sheffied playing loud music and meeting up at a local cruise in which way doe it effect you and please state your reason?
not affected personally, but nobody should deliberately do anything which adversly affects someone elses quality of life, and as I understand it, these kids do, so see answer to Q1, and don't spare the detergent!
Do you reckon sheffield is a modern city for living?
No. Boston, MA is an example of a 'modern city for living'.
Can you imagine sheffield in 20 years time, please write a brief summrary in which you can imagine it like?
Well I know how I'd like it to be, but I can't imagine what it will be like
