Try using a spray i think vanish make it for upholstery, I used it on very old red wine stains.

What kind of hair dye is it??

if its semi permanantthen you should be able to get it out, if its permanent then start praying 'cause you will need a miracle.

If the stain has dried it will be very difficult to move. Try mr muscle multi task.. It worked a treat on my carpet (and that was a dried stain) took a bit of elbow grease though.

As I say to the wife, do it outside or go to the hairdressers.

DO NOT EVER DO IT IN THE HOUSE!!!!!

Too many unknown factors.

You always buy a rug to hide the mark.

Carpet Stain Removal Tips

Hair Dye Stain

Unfortunately, hair dye can rarely be thoroughly removed from carpet as it permanently alters the carpetīs color. However, there are several steps you can try. First, try blotting the stain with rubbing alcohol. If that doesnīt work, try blotting the stain with a solution of 1/4 cup liquid hand dishwashing detergent per cup of warm water. If that doesnīt work, try blotting the stain with a solution of 1 cup white vinegar per 2 cups of water, then rinse with warm water and a white cloth. You may also wish to try a liquid peroxide based cleaner.

Be sure to let the carpet dry in between trying different cleaners.

also this may help -
SunBrite effectively and safely attacks the following stains: Ink, Liquor, Candle Wax, Paint, Tar, Vomit, Hair Dye, Gum, Coffee, Oil, Grape Juice, Soda, Grease, Water Stains, Wine, Rust, Milk, Blood, Glue, & Chocolate.

Hmmmmm thanks guys...

I have considered the rug oh yes!!

Perhaps I could bottle the elbow grease and try that after the weekend!!

Guess I could dye the whole carpet radiant ruby!!!

I'll try it all - including the praying!

Thanks guys - feel free to pray with me!!!

The other option is depending on the size of the stain is to cut that piece of carpet out really carefully and then cut another of matching size that goes underneath some furniture that is never moved and just swap them - we have done this successfully before!

my daughter who is a trainee hairdresser was told that if hair dyes get onto clothes ect. then spray with hair spray. I don't know what this does to it but it does work. As i said daughter is TRAINEE therefor lots of little accidents at home.

pure bleach got the dark brown out of my carpet although my carpet is beige, if yours is darker itd probably bleach the colour out.
