Hi.
Anyone know a software package that will allow me to create road layouts on a PC from sketched drawings.
Thanks

Well, in theory any vector based drawing application will do what you want - the ability to draw straight lines, curves etc with a grid to get the right scale.
If you don't want to go into huge amounts of technical detail, then something like OpenOffice Draw or an open source vector drawing tool would be sufficient. If you want to spend cash, then look at something like Visio. If you need real grunt however, then you are probably looking at a proper CAD package, with a proper price tag.
Also, the more money you spend the more of a learning curve there is. If you don't need a high end package then don't get one.
Have a look at their stuff.Take no notice of the price because if you phone them up about it they are open to a lot of haggling.http://www.serif.com/drawplus/

For a 'basic' implementation of AutoCAD you can try QCAD (free on *nix), and for a free 3DSMax alternative look at Blender. There's plenty of others but it all depends on what you want to do...

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I am in the process now of downloading free trials.
Try Google SketchUp, I know it's really for 3D work, but you can use it in 2D and it's FREE and very easy to use.

Actually for a lot of fun vector based stoof I now use Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/) a lot.
