would be a good signing if we can get it sorted. did well on loan last season -more quality in midfield.

well done Laws for refusing to be held to ransom by Adebola

his comments are backed up Potter is ****, just like Tudgay is ****e, every player at Wednesday is ****.

****test player I've ever seen at Wednesday is Di Canio, close call with Waddle though

Back in the real world. Potter has been hit and miss for me. He's got a cracking free kick on him and does know how to pick a pass. Though sometimes he does go missing. He had a very good game against Cardiff. In all, I'd say sign him, if he gets settled at Wednesday, he can be a good player.

Potter was a rather average player I thought, although he was still better than either MacAllister or O'Connor. I can't see him playing alongside Miller in central midfield, teams would just rip through us as between them those two players couldn't tackle a crossword puzzle.

Now that Potter's got a payrise with Wolves being promoted I can't see him coming anyway, especially as they'll want a transfer fee as well.

McAllister is very underated in my opinion. Works his socks off, good at breaking up play and isn't bad at attacking either. I think he's been pretty decent this season and scored the odd goal.

Not knocking MacAllister, he's decent at what he does, but he's still a pretty average player at Championship level. Potter is a better footballer, but I don't think he was outstanding really. Like you said before, he does tend to go missing from games. Now that Miller's signed I think that with him in the side it's a holding midfielder who needs to play with him which Potter certainly ain't.

Yeah agree, its either or with both of them. I'd like Wednesday to have that competition for that place, but I don't suppose Potter would sign to be a bench warmer.

wonder what the Chief thinks of our other signings so far ?

I think of the players possibly in contention, Potter would prove to be the more influential player.
I can't see him signing though, and Mcallister and O'Connor are doing ok without pulling any trees up.
Gray and Miller will probably be the most prominent midfielders next season anyway.

Rather than signing Potter, wouldn't you rather hold onto the cash and put it towards someone better - as said elsewhere, you've got others of a similar standard, and it's not like he's a step up in class for you? If you can get a season long loan though, then that's another matter...

Just like the last few seasons for both our clubs, the most influential signings may well be the loanees you bring in, particularly from the Premier.

The way Laws is going, you'll have signed a new team by the time we kick off on Monday!

from what i've seen of him i wouldnt want us to pay over the odds for him. been ok and knows how to pick a pass but hasnt done enough to say we must sign him. with al saying we need a holding midfielder more.

Gray? ..... Beevers? .....Hinds? ...... Buxton? ...... Simek?
Worth a try?

Have you gone mad? ;)

Of those, Hinds could perhaps do a job there, but fullbacks and a gangly central defender as central midfielders?! I'd like to see us sign somebody in the Carsley mode, but of the current squad MacAllister or O'Connor could do the job if necessary. O'Connor's been a bit dodgy in the second half of the season, but I'd still far rather have him there than the likes of Beevers.

Earwiggo

Sorry Al.
I've gone mad.
I was thinking more of someone to sit in front of the back four with, (in some cases) a bit of height, a bit of speed, defensive qualities, and a bit of an eye for a pass.
I hope our 'new' back 4 isn't in need of protection as this season's bunch were, (away particularly), but we cannot be so vulnerable at the back next season if we have any aspirations.
Different minds, different tactics.
You know best!

from what i have seen and heard he doesn't sound like a bad squad player- he just isn't the midfield master that pulls all the strings that a team needs.

Is he worth buying? depends how much they want i guess?

Heard BL on the radio saying things have changed with Potter, he will command a fee and now Wolves had gone up he will be on P.L. wages.
I've said before if we have a fit back 4 try putting Buxton in that holding midfield role

I've also suggested this somewhere else on here Mick.
I also reckon Hinds or Beevers could do a job here if BL goes with Purse and Wood (or a.n other) as a centre back pairing.

i think he should experiment abit in pre season and see if any can do that job. out of all those you mentioned earwiggo i'd say hinds might be able to to it, not sure about the rest. maybe if buxton is put there we might feel abit safer knowing there is a defence behind him when he decides to go on a run of his

I was going to put that in my original post actually!!!

We don't have one either , not since brown and mccall left the lane. tongue did it in fits and starts but never on a regular basis, and speed an adequate job did until he got injured.

Im hopeing that howard will start to do it more (like he did against preston) but until he does it all match- every match, im yet to be convinced.

Not even George Best did this, but I know what you mean! :)
The 'better quality' players (or those who think they are) rarely give you more than 15 minutes a game. :(

Sold our best goalscorer, pocketed £4 million quid and still in the play-off final.
That is called how to run a proper business mate, something they know absolutely nothing about in Sheff 6 ;)

dosnt that tell you how poor the championship is -if a team can sell their best player ,not replace him and still make the play offs.

its a reflection on the poor standed of the championship -not your squad strength

Give over Gary, even the most ardent owls on here know we have a strong squad with more strikers than a picket line.
There were some very good teams in the championship and as i have and always will maintain its the hardest division in football anywhere in the world to get out of and it gets harder every year.

It took Stockers a week of sulking and not posting just to get over losing to Wednesday, if they lose the play-off final he might not be here for months!!

At least if they lose, all these new blades who have suddenly started posting on here will soon be back into the woodwork.

And you could have gained automatic promotion had he been around to score the same amount of goals for Utd as he did for Stoke. Now that really would be how to run a proper business CB.

But I suppose that his fourth division replacement will serve you well if you get to the premiership. :hihi:
