Wigfalls was a great shop , just like a large electrical shop with friendly staff
I remember the Classis Cinema burning down, I believe it was just after "Wiggies", I think I have a couple of photos of the aftermath somewhere.

My goodness, it doesn't seem 25 years. Working on the top floor of Griffin House, we could see the smoke and were speculating as to which building it was. Thankfully everyone got out safely - as Noel1953 wrote it was a great shop.
I didnt realise it was 25 years, i would have been 14 and I remember going into town with my mum and my grandad to take grandad home. His bus stop was in ponds street so we couldnt help but see the fire, we stood outside the bingo hall and watched the firemen for ages.
Was evacuated from next door.when we got outside flames were shooting through the roof. Sheffield was awash with smoke damaged stock after and some people were happy their account details were destroyed
My friend went down a few days later and asked the staff if they had a record player with a smoked glass lid
