It rates alongside the government official who said that 9/11 was "a good day to bury bad news" nightrider 07-07-2005, 20:18 in fact now I have thought about it are these news commentators not condoning terrorism? - because they are essentially saying blowing up civilians is good because it helps get the poilitical message they support put back on the agenda. LellyBee 07-07-2005, 20:29 Do you think they'd still think it was a good way to keep the war on terrorism in the public eye if it was their own family and friends in the frontline? I don't think so, and I'd be surprised if they don't get chastised for their insensitive comments. 1Man&hisBMW 07-07-2005, 20:36 Well it is Fox News isnt it.... that farce of a newstation that is about imaginative and informative as watching back to back episodes of Bergerac. rubydazzler 07-07-2005, 20:43 I find it quite chilling that they seem to be implying that the attacks today have done the USA a favour by putting the "war on terror" back as No.1 priority. What on earth did they mean by it. There's a case sometimes for being pragmatic but that imterpretation of today's eventss just seems heartless and unsympathetic. I've spent most of today on tenterhooks worrying about my daughter's partner who works in the City and whose daily journey takes in the Tube from Liverpool St to Aldgate East. The last thing I want to hear about is Americans welcoming the events as serving their interests. banesmabes 07-07-2005, 20:50 They're saying that they prefer for normal law abiding people to be blown up whilst on their way to work (as long as it isn't Americans that are being blown up) so that it buries the need for the US to face up to the fact that there are partly responsible for huge suffering and tens of thousands of deaths per week in the Africa. It is obvious that the American government does not want to drop the debt and this will effectly take the pressure off them for the time being. They also do not want to work towards lower greenhouse gas emissions, because no America government wants to turn around to its people and tell them they have to cut back on their energy consumption - a definite vote loser. They did after all use the 'War on Terror' to justify invading Iraq in order to get at more oil to maintain current lifestyles. |
