View Full Version : What are main tourist attractions in the UK?
thestruggle 07-07-2005, 16:30 My friend from Hong Kong asked me if I was touring the UK what I would go and see. I was pretty much couldnt think of anything, and things I thought of were crap. Here's my list.
- Chester Zoo
- Natural History Museum
- Stone Henge
- The Deep
- National Space Centre
For those of you that have done a bit of traveling in the UK, suggest some interesting place.
Don_Kiddick 07-07-2005, 16:32 Surely the royal family bring in most tourists don't they? That's how royalists justify their existance.
Yet they're not top of your list.
Actually they're not ON your list... or mine :suspect:
:D
Don_Kiddick 07-07-2005, 16:33 The Beatles Tour  in Liverpool
Berberis 07-07-2005, 18:53 Warwick castle, its probably the best castle in the UK that you can actually visit.

Don_Kiddick 07-07-2005, 19:07 Have you been to Conisbrough Castle (http://www.conisbroughcastle.org.uk/) near Doncaster???
spyro2000 07-07-2005, 19:12 I dont think theres much worth visiting fro someone coming from Hong Kong
Whitby.
York
Drive over the Snake/thru the Dales/go to the Lakes...don't get scenery like that in Japan. Oh and while they're in the Lakes, go to Sellafield visitors' centre at BNFL.
Transatlantic Slavery Gallery and the Maritime Museum on Liverpool Docks. That's part of our culture too - they won't have seen that in Japan either. But worth a trip.
Alton Towers to see how we do it differently to the Japanese theme parks..
Lincoln Castle to see the Magna Carta (one of the twelve copies that was made in the day and signed at the time)
DanSumption 07-07-2005, 19:38 London Eye should definitely be on there.
Also, I prefer the Science museum to Natural History museum (especially since they built the extension), although as they're next to each other you could, at a stretch, do both in one day although you'd probably miss a lot.

If you're in London at the Nat Hist museum, go on to the British Museum, after all it has the best bits of every collection in Britain(or at least seems to) as well as many treasures from abroad!!!!
If you can stomach Leeds, the Royal Armouries Museum is good.. Free entry an' all :D
Tower of London
London Eye
Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh
t'Lane
Norfolk Broads
t'Lane
Stonehenge
t'Lane
A few more for you.
Bournemouth Beaches
Bournemouth Eye
Bournemouth nightlife (worth a hen/stag weekend)
Madam Tussades (wax museum)
Alton Towers
Windsor Castle
Buckingham Palace
Portsmouth/Southsea (if your into Naval ships etc)
Hmmm... think i might get sussed here as a Southern Girl...
Sheffield has so much to offer the would be tourist.
Take a gentle stroll through the bottom of Wincobank, relish in the delights of chavs drinking white cider out side the chippy at the bottom of standon road.
Throwing coins and stones are the passtime of their choice ,stand in ore as they demonstrate skill and agility in the art of coin tossing.
Endulge in the wonders of Firth Park after dark, what more can be said.
If you are realy lucky you might see the odd shooter or two.
If you are the energetic type, looking for the active side, then Liberty Hill has it all for you.
Simply wait for the 82 bus and hurl the odd brick or two at the windscreen.
If thats not your cup of tea then try opening the emergency exit as it turns to go up to Hall Park Head.
Your visit to sheffield should stay with you always, what better way to capture the spirit of the city than visit the Hen and chickens and the Cannon.
No other place (with the exception of the Market Tavern) will offer such a true and accurate snapshot of this fair city of ours.
Chat with the locals as the barter for the sale of local produce, and so much more.
We are also proud of ourlocal sports heros,we have come out topin events such as, Car torching, most cash (giro) spent in Argos, speed signing on,and of cousre the sheffield Marathon.
This famous event involves, getting out of bed ten minutes before the post office closes, racing there in time to cash giro (ensuring of course the Nova has enough petrol) then into the bookies for a flutter, once completed the event reaches its climax as all contendors race to Morrisons carpark to burn some rubber.
Oh the wonders of Sheffield,,,,,,lol
