Speed cameras have caught South Yorkshire police officers breaking the limit 483 times in the past two and a half years - but only 31 incidents resulted in a fine.
The Star can reveal, through information supplied under the Freedom of Information Act, that fixed penalties were issued in 29 cases and two cases went to court.
The figure of 483 is the number of police vehices caught speeding where their blue emergency lights were not visible.
In nine cases South Yorkshire Police were unable to identify the drivers of the police vehicles clocked speeding because the pool cars they were using had not been logged out correctly by the officers.
