I'm excited, Peter Jackson has managed to get his sneaky little mitts on my current favorite series of books. I adore the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik and I'm hoping he's going to do something as thrilling as what he did with the LOTR films. Have any of you read these books? What do you think? Is Peter Jackson the man to take them to the big screen?

If he can film LOTR he can handle just about any fantasy story. The question is do he want to become typecast as the fantasy-film director?

I suspect he's looking to produce rather than direct. He'll have done 4 fantasy films already before he gets onto Temeraire (5 if you include the Del Toro directed Middle Earth film). It must get a bit samey.

I read the first book and enjoyed it. I also loved LOTR so there is promise in this.

From the interview I read it would seem he's looking to direct, he's also bought the rights to the whole series (including any that have not yet been written). Apparently he's already got WETA digital playing with possible character images, there's some rumour of a 2012 release for the first one...
