I would like to hear from all of you who have been mugged or attacked in sheffield. Has this put you off going out? What affect has it had on you? Do you think sheffield is a safe city and such incidents are few?

Has this put you off going out? What affect has it had on you? Do you think sheffield is a safe city and such incidents are few? zombiekillah 07-07-2005, 00:06 yes i was mugged at knifepoint last year in broomhill , pretty horrible experience and although i do get freaked out having to walk past that area at night now , it doesnt stop me doing it. i feel safest in sheffield out of any city and these things could happen anywhere at any time to anyone. for the first couple of months afterwards i got taxis everywhere and was very paranoid , but even now id like to think it doesnt get to me but i do have the occasional panic attack . i know i shouldnt walk around on my own at night but sometimes it cant be helped and its just something you have to do. i just hope it doesnt happen again! i expected the police to not be very helpful but they were great. officer at my house within half an hour of calling , follow up visit and visit from photofit bloke and good communication via phone and post. they never caught the bloke (didnt think they would ) and closed the case a while ago but it restored my faith in sheffields police. these incidents probably happen less than in other cities but to be honest they happen everywhere ..... just a grim fact of todays world. 2c4s 07-07-2005, 01:57 I once got mugged by a guy, but my phone was a brick so he said i could keep it. i said lol and he's like oh u use sheffieldfourm too... LOZL Wow..... my sides are splitting  :suspect: D2J 07-07-2005, 09:42 I have never been mugged (touch wood) but I was assaulted and knifed 14 years ago following an incident at school.. I wouldn't say its put me off going out and about because I for one refuse to play down to morons like this. Yes they left me in a bad way but over the course of a few months I got myself back together, upped my confidence and faced the outside world once again.. Overall I think Sheffield is a very safe city and I have no fears about going out etc. Its good see the extra police presence around town at the weekend. The_Sharp 07-07-2005, 15:53 I have never been mugged, but my mate was a good 9 - 10 months back. Left for dead outside Sunwin House (at the top of the Moor). Two asian guys took his phone off him, when he asked if he could at least keep the sim card they kicked his head in, literally. Spent two weeks in hospital, had brain surgery. They never caught the b******s that did it. Though i suspect that they were probably regulars of a nearby bar whose name (and therefore colour ;) ) shall not be mentioned... summer1955 08-07-2005, 07:15 i was mugged 9 years ago on the norfolk park february thick snow a guy with dreadlocks he got my purse but i was lucky i had only a few pounds in it he did not hurt me but i was shaken up by the incident and even now i wont go out on my own at night and in the winter wont even go out in the snow. sugarnspice 14-07-2005, 09:24 All 3 of us Sisters have been mugged in town at one time or another. Mine was in the middle of the day and I'd just collected my wages so was livid! My Sister's both at night in town. My little Sis was hurt and managed to get some compensation but was shaken for months. Some drunk homeless woman really had a pop at her. Nasty. Elf1 14-07-2005, 11:59 Got mugged going into Republic, and then again every time I went to the bar. Horrible soulless place. Cyclone 14-07-2005, 12:20 what's the point of this thread? If you only ask for replies from people who have been mugged, rather than including those who haven't then you're not likely to get a very accurate picture. I've not been mugged, although I've been attacked a couple of times when out on a friday or saturday night. Doesn't alter my behaviour in the slightest, although it might have made me slightly more aware of groups of lads when i'm heading home after a drink. THCAyle 14-07-2005, 13:40 nearly been mugged , but had the ****e kicked out of me instead because i refused to give them my phone, they left without my phone and i left with a pulped up face doesnt put me off going out at all. miniminch 14-07-2005, 14:37 I've never been mugged - I look far too scary for anyone to pull that **** around me:cool: Little do they know I am a philosopher prince! Saifa 14-07-2005, 14:46 Second what Mini says. Apart from the philosopher prince bit :D Not had one single bit of bother in my 11 years here. Jinx!!!!!! kirky 14-07-2005, 14:57 i feel like ive been mugged every time i visit a petrol station:| Grim 14-07-2005, 17:53 i've not been mugged, but some black lad (racial slur unintended) decided he'd like to beat me around the head on eccleshall rd (entirely unprovoked). Came up from behind, so i had no chance. Then he ran off. £200 for new glasses, a huge dental bill, a week off uni, and i was as right as rain (was i *****!!!!). boyface 14-07-2005, 18:53 My mate got mugged a good while back near the train station He gave them his "machine thing" for testing his blood sugar levels (he's diabetic) and told them it was a Gameboy. Daft gits. I've lived in Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow and been to loads more places. From my experience Sheffield is by far the safest. Ratmaster 15-07-2005, 15:57 I worked for a pizza place delivering and got mugged for pizza by these teenage mutant asian turds (they were no way ninjas) they dragged me into a dark house threw me down and punched me in the head - stupid S**ts, I was still wearing my helmet! They got arrested anyway i'm sure it was worth it all for an extra large pizza or two. I'm still laughing at the line they came out with "give me all your f***ing pizza" genius. thebodgie 17-07-2005, 18:43 I had one attempted mugging within my first month of being in Sheffield... I was last-man-standing after a big night out so though i'd check out Republic. A couple of young guys came up to me and told me they wanted my wallet. I had a bit of a chat with them and it seemed like they really didn't want to create a scene so when I finished my beer I told them I was heading back up on the dance floor and enjoying the rest of my night so they could either pull out the knife or go enjoy their night too. They let me by... I didn't realise until I walked off that there was another one of them standing behind me. In terms of changed behaviour I don't go out drinking by myself in Sheffield anymore! OMG the daft sh*ts !!! ... mugging a pizza guy at your OWN HOME !!! How retarded are some people ? Ratmaster 18-07-2005, 12:18 Hi Jamie It was a recently derelict house, but they were still stupid. The cops were actually there once I got out the house cos the neighbours had seen them going into the house before hand. It does seem like a lot of effort to get free cheese on toast tho. Nathen 19-07-2005, 15:35 I got mugged outside KwikFit on Ecclesall road. Put up quite a fight, and tried to get the guy hit by a taxi by darting out in front of them. Failed and he took my wallet. Fortunatly, there was nothing in it as I had stuffed all my cash into another pocket at the petrol station. Pwned. Its also ECCLESALL Road. There is no H in it. littleboo 19-07-2005, 16:01 I was mugged in the underground which runs under arundle gate (near Roxy) I had got off my bus in flat street and was walking up to boots to get some lunch on my way to work. there was this asian guy who was walking infront of me acting really strange, he kept turning round and looking at me and slowed down. I thought he was up to something so I put my bag over my head accross my chest he turned round and grabbed my bag ( he obviously hadn't seen me put it over my head) there was a bit of a scuffle and I managed to punch him twice in the face. then someone started coming down the steps and he ran away. Got in trouble when I got home because I was 7 months pregnant. I reported it to the police and they came and took a statement but didn't include the bit about me punching him incase they did catch him because he could have sued me, what a twisted society we live in!!!! Ive seen it happen, so we'll leave that bit out" this was later that night at my house and my husband was present to hear this. Cyclone 19-07-2005, 17:44 well the police should know better. Firstly it would be a criminal offence, not civil and the police and the cps would refuse to press charges. I suppose that they could bring a civil charge against you for damages, but as you are legally entitled to defend yourself and your property with reasonable force, it would be thrown out of court by a judge at his expense. Since muggers are probably not the most well of people, no sensible solicitor would touch a case like that with a barge poll as they wouldn't get paid. littleboo 19-07-2005, 17:51 must admit we were shocked at this !! igm1 19-07-2005, 18:02 Muggers are the lowest of the low but mugging a pregnant woman.....
