Hi everyone.
I have posted this thread as i am thinking of starting a business delivering alcohol, tobacco products and snacks to your home.
All i want to know is, would you as a potential customer use this service, and if so, what area of sheffield do you live.
If not, could you give me a reason y?
Thanks for all your help.

I was just thinking the other day about this and what a good idea it is, hope it is legal you'd be on to a winner there

hi, yes it is perfectly legal, if the correct steps are taken. This is just purely a thread to see if the public would use this service. All feedback is greatly appreciated.:)

But how big would the turn over have to be to compete with supermarket prices.

Hi... i think it is a good idea, if the prices aren't really stupid.
If you go to this link http://www.just-eat.co.uk/restaurants-247booze/menu
They deliver.... but minimum order is £10.00 and they close at 11pm every night. (People thinking of ordering booze probs would want to order it alot later than 11pm)

Personally, i'd never order from here, even if i was blind drunk and wanted more booze!
Blossom hill wine, usually about £5 from asda, they're selling at £10.90
taboo £19.99.... you know how much they cost but who'd pay that price???

If you price them right, and charge delivery costs by the area code, (closer to you would be cheaper to deliver than the opposite side of town) If you understand me?

Good luck with it!

Good luck!

Alcohol= liver disease, coronary heart disease, fighting, puking, not remembering where you live, forgetting what you did last night, sleeping with someone and finding out you got her pregnant, or worse finding out you have a serious disease, less braincells, etc etc blah blah blah, whats good about it, except it may help you sleep, or it may jut be a way to have fun, so i think an alchohol delivery service would be terrible on top of the already severe uk binge situation, also tesco, asda, and sainsburys deliver

When I was at Uni these companies did survive and make money. But that was when cheap booze in supermarkets was non existent and there wasn't a credit crunch.

People know how much booze costs and are reluctant to pay much more. You would have to charge a lot extra on top of any retail price to even meet costs.

I don't think many halls of residences would take kindly to booze delivery on site. Too many incidents in the past few years of alcohol related deaths. If someone did get ill thorugh booze, and it turned out the University allowed the company on site to deliver the booze at 5am, then it would be a public scandal.

These guys deliver till 4am http://www.118menu.co.uk/247booze
I think it's a good idea but you need a decent mark up to make it worth your while considering all the costs involved.

im not sure if i would use it personally as i usualy go down the pub if i want a drink and if im intending to drink late plan so i end up at a lock in. However if i were i wouldn't mind having to pay a couple of extra quid ontop for the conveniance of having it brought to my door

I think I would rather go to the supermarket. I guess that I am never that desperate to get a bottle of wine, but I can see that there are some who would be.

I dont smoke and we are close to shops in swallownest but if it could be done like ordering a Piza then I would use it. However most people seem to plan and buy cheap ale etc.
I remember years ago when a lad !!! We had a company called Laws who delivered Pop etc, they were always busy until the supermarkets opened.
Wish you best of luck and with the research.

When I was younger and living in Crooks you could get cans of beer delivered by one of the curry places in Broomhill. I also remember getting a couple of leaflets through the door for booze and cigs delivery services.

Have always wondered why there aren't more of these akin to the pizza delivery service - y'know when you just can't be bothered to go out - but with alcohol, if you've been drinking, you can't just nip out in the car, so even more necessary. I suppose it will all come down to economics in the end though, especially with your market (students etc?) likely to be very cost conscious.

have you got a personal license to sell alcohol??????

barginboy
11-06-2009, 23:21
i thought about doin this ages ago but it not as good an idea as it sounds.

first of all you would need a licence to sell alcohol an make sure of the times your allowed to sell between.

secondly you would have to have some way of knowing how old the buyers are, not everyone will have id and it will only cost you money if your having to take orders back because they cannot prove there age.

and thirdly your van will be the biggest target in sheffield, every little hoody that sees it will assume it full of beer and smash there way in as soon as your backs turned.

you would also need business insurance and im guessing this would be very high for alcohol delivery.
