hello

Before writing, please be informed this ISNT for me.

Right, my gran is after another dog... She already has a 2year old bitch, im unsure on her breed (didnt think to ask. Duh!)
Anyway, a small dog, good with other pets, the breed doesnt have a 'bad' nature if that makes sense, dog or bitch, any colour, short haired.

So, anywhere i can take her to have a nosey? She's really wanting another (they keep her on her toes otherwise she'd be housebound!) or is anyone selling a nice dog?

You can home check, and anything reasonably normal. Etc.

Her price range would be upto £150 ish, shes not after a super dog with papers and a manual :hihi: just a dog, needing a loving home, excersize, company and food!

Look forward to the replies.

And again, this isn't for me as i cant look after a dog due to commitments. As some of you may well know!

Try the free ads or go to the kennels

freeads, as ive heard, are full of dimwits letting their dogs breed and breed trying to get some cash for their stella.
Do i have to call the kennels? Or just drop in?

have a look at the rain rescue website, where there are links for not only local rescues but others up and down the country too, our local council dog pound (where you'll need an appointment to view the dogs available), and breed specific rescues too :)

With some rescues you may have problems depending on the age of your Gran. Although i suspect this is the bigger rescues rather than the ones that look at the individual and then the dog like Rain for instance.

My neighbour was telling me that Thornberry refused to let her have a dog as she was over 60 yrs old. This couple are fit and active and offer a wonderful home to any dog. They had also donated hundreds of pounds and items over the years and were known and had it commented on how well looked after there little dog was. They felt very affronted and also that they were spoken to terribly and haven't been back since. Anyhow not getting into a Thornberry debate but thought i should point it out.

You could try small breed rescues to see if they have anything suitable. What about an older dog http://www.oldies.org.uk/.

hi, gina you could always try thornbury animal sanctuary, they have some lovely dogs there, the adoption fee is around 100 pounds.

Mayflower often have some nice small dogs in - but just remember, what your gran is after - so are many others - and so the nice friendly small dogs will be being searched for by the most people.

Many rescue centres check on the household and the type of dog being looked for. Many will not adopt a very young dog - out to an old person, and vice versa - wont let an older dog go to a young family, usually these decisions are based on painful experiences with them seeing dogs get returned for many reasons.

Whilst older people may be very active in their early 60's - taking on a dog thats only young with a possible 10 yr life span ahead of it - may not be the one for them in their mid 70's, and so will probably advise to go for something that suits their life style now.

A 3/4 yr old dog should be out of the youngster stage - still have years worth of walking in them, and not be too much trouble.

I too would try Sheffield Dog Rescue, Thornberry and Mayflower - all great centres helping dogs from around our area.

Hi, What about a Miniature Schnauzer? I paid £200 for Evie, she was 3 when I got her and she's an ex breeding dog. If you want the breeders number PM me. I know the breeder has rehomed to retired people in the past. These little dogs just want love and comfort, a warm lap to sit on, a few nice walks a day and in return they give so much love and affection.

I've advertised my pups in freeads, and got great homes for my Cavalier pup's. Niether am i a dimwit, nor do i drink stella.!
More of a real ale fan.!.

Don't make judgements on people you don't know.!

I have seen many a dog looking for a good home on rescues that would suit an older person, may be a dog who's lost his owner would be best suited, one thats already lived with an older person. goodl uck in the search, please do try rescue's though don't just buy one from free ads that might come with numerous health problems which in the long run would cost your gran.

I don't if your gran is after an older dog but there are some lovely dogs on www.oldies.org.uk or there is west yorkshire dog rescue and small dog rescue(can't remember addresses!) that might have some suitable candidates....

Thanks to all the replies, will have to check the links out on a pc, using mobile at the min. Shes not after a small dog as such, a big dog will be okay, she just doesnt want it jumping her fence!

John, i was going on what i was told! Not judging you personally. So dont jump on me please.

Thanks again!

P.s does anyone know the lady who does c.a.t.s thingy? She collected some food from me a few weeks ago, and ive got more! If youre that lady, please pm me! X
