I think that if it wasn't for Live 8 we wouldn't be hosting the olympics.
I think that the Live 8 concert showed the IOC that we have the capablitily to host such a large event as the olympics.
I looked at how many bands played at Paris and it wasn't half as much as the London one. Maybe the Bob Geldof and Live 8 event that was so close to the IOC decision wasn't a co-insidence.
hmmmm
makes you think doesn't it!

No, Live 8 pales into insignificance beside the Olympics for shear size and complexity. If it had any impact at all, it would be to put the UK in the news and so into the public conscious.
I think there's a fair bit of truth in that.
Certainly hosting the most high profile of the Live 8 concerts just a few days before the vote can't have done us any harm and may just have tipped the balance.
Plus according to all reports Seb Coe played an absolute blinder in Singapore.

I totally disagree.
I think the Olympics were bound to come to UK sooner or later, and the bid they put forward was the best one. Coupled with the fact that the Prime Minister made the effort to be there in person to show how serious the country/government is, when the other countries just rustled up celebrities and minor politicians. Blair is a current true world figure, you cannot argue with that.
Also we in Sheffield will benefit from this, if only by the fact that the London transport infrastructure will be greatly improved, giving us knock on benefits of improved services to the south and europe.
Many of our local companies will get contracts to work on the new facilities and our city will host competing countries. Who come for months to acclimatise and use our sporting facilities. Don't forget our world standard Ponds forge swimming Pool and Don valley stadium and sport Institute, and Ice centre etc..
I would say that the African vote may have ben swayed by Tony Blair pressing for debt cancellation and being very vocal in the Africa debate.
I'd also say Live8 made no difference.

Damn ! Wish I'd thought of that :D
Good Lord no please say it's not going to incite Geldof to want to present the medals, enough is enough :o :o :o
