View Full Version : Anyone Know Anything About Repairing DVD Recorders?
Freebird 06-07-2005, 17:37 Does Anyone Know Anything About Repairing DVD Recorders?
I Have A Panasonic DMR-E30 And It's started To Play-Up When Recording. It Tends To Reset Itself Most Times,But It Will Record Every Now And Again,But Can Be Very Frustrating. When It Does Record The Picture Will Sometimes Stick Or Go All Patchy.
I Did Get In Touch With A Repairman Who Said It Could Cost Upto 200 Quid (More Than A New One Would Cost!)
I Was Just Wondering If Anyone Out There Had Heard Of This Problem Before And Could Tell Me How To Rectify The Fault Myself.
On The Whole I Would Recommend The Panasonic DVD Recorders,As They're Really Good For Editing On RAM Discs.(Great For Cutting Adverts Out Of Any Programmes You May Want To Keep). However,I Would Advise A Extended Warranty,But Then Again,The Price Has Come Down That Much,It's Probably Cheaper To Buy A New One Every Few Years (But I Suppose That's What They Want). And Then They Tell Us To Recycle!!!
Anyway,Hope There's A Boffin Out There That Can Help.Any Assistance Would Be Much Appreciated.
cgksheff 06-07-2005, 17:41 Do you realise how hard it is to understand a long post when you mess with capital letters like that?
Freebird 06-07-2005, 17:57 Nah,But Then Again,I've Never Had Much Trouble Reading Though.
Do You Know 'Owt Or Are You Just Here To Criticise Typing Styles.Maybe You Should Have A Go At People's Spelling Or Grammar. It's A Lot Worse Than One Person Starting Each Word With A Capital Letter.

i know this is pretty basic but have you tried cleaning the lens?
Freebird 06-07-2005, 18:09 Yeah,I've Tried That,But Thanks For The Constructive Help,Mate.
The Repairman Said It Was Possibly Something To With The RAM Drive Unit.If It Was,That's Why It Would Cost So Much.

Freebird 06-07-2005, 18:32 Oooh,Looks Like I've Got My First Stalker.:headbang:
from experience opening my old dvd recorders/players, i have found that its just what looks like a normal DVD Writer for your pc, hooked into a little pcb with a hdd inside. so as a pc tech dont find em troublesome to play with..
however, the problem your having sounds like its more power/power supply related and not down to the drive.... that, i feel would be a bit harder to fix.
neeeeeeeeeek 07-07-2005, 08:32 Sounds like the repair man has no idea whats wrong with it and is just taling crap. Chuck it in the bin and get a new one is probably your best couse of action. That or accidently damage it if you have house insurance!
Freebird 07-07-2005, 08:44 Cheers For That Vini-Gives Me Somewhere To Start.

Well it is rather hard to read, and stopped me from bothering to read your initial post properly, although in this particular case I doubt I would have offered any useful advice past "clean the lens" :)
I suspect his point was to wonder why you went out of your way to type like that, when it is so much harder than just typing normally!
Start by having a look here ....

with sky its harder to put the stuff onto computer tho.......without a dvd recorder :P
Freebird 07-07-2005, 19:54 Thanks For The Adress Cols.
Rich 951 & Ernie:Look Out For A New Topic Later Tonight.I'll Explain Why I Use Capital Letters In That. It'll Save Me Time From Answering Everybody Individually!
Can't Believe How Many People Have Asked Why Over The Last Few Days. But Why Do You Do NOT Start Your Names With Capital Letters?
Ernie:I've Got Already Got Sky+.It May Be The Future,But The Recording Facility On That Isn't 100% Foolproof Unless You Manually Programme It (Which Defeats The Object Of It).
The Good Thing About The Panasonic Models Is That,(When They're Working) They Do A Playback Speed Of 1.3 So You Can Watch Programmes Just That Little Bit Quicker Enabling You To Watch More TV.
Oh,And Ernie,I Was One Of Those Dunces At Myers Grove. But At Least I Was An Original Dunce Of The 80's,Instead Of The Prime Dunces They Turn Out These Days!;)
