Now that the 'protest' season is in full swing, I wonder if anyone out there would like to give us residents some support.
Without warning, plans have been drawn up to build a new community centre in Woodhouse. A number of sites have been earmarked but to date, only ONE site has actually had plans on display.
This site is situated on grass land adjacent to the junction of Skelton Lane and Waterslacks Road.
The local residents association have tried to keep this proposal quiet until I suppose its too late to make any serious objections.
The site is regularly maintained by the city council and presents a lovely outlook for residents yound and old alike. Now we are in danger of losing it. Those of you who know the location will know about it and we ask those of you who are concerned to contact the local T.A.R.A association and express your feelings.
Thank you

Can you provide a bit more info?

how do we get in touch with TARA, and where is the site in waffle terms, as I'm not familiar with the road names ;)

Any organised objections in the pipeline?

We have a new community centre being built on the Tinsley Recreation ground on a former bowling green. Some residents have complained that they did not know about the proposals.

The proposals were put together by the Tinsley Forum and had lots of newsletters, meetings and even a festival to promote the idea and to get peoples input. Alot of people turned up to have their say and was looking good.

Now that things are physically moving the people that couldn't be bothered to put forward their views have come along and said they were not consulted. This had led to more meetings and consultations which has to be paid for from the project.

If you live in Woodhouse then you must represent your views at these type of meetings or you will have to make do with what others want.

Surely a community centre is for ALL the local residents to comment on and not just the residents association. They have a right to an input in the consultation process but not the final say.

Mind you my experience of residents associations was very enlightening. They are really just the old tenants associations ie council house tenants and members of the local Labour Party ie the mouthpiece of the ruling Labour Party.

If they support something there is every chance that they will get it.

I thought they were the modern day equivalent of the village hall.

Kirsty,
The residents in the area of the proposed community site have now been sent a letter outlining the proposals and asking if they agree/diagree with the proposals.
apparently there was a full day meeting and display in the chapel meeting room last Monday and unfortunately, I was away on holiday.
It all seems as exactly as I predicted that a building will be erected for the so called 'benefit' of the community except those that live in close proximity.
There are a lot of elderly and vunerable people in the area who are frightened by the possibility of parties, discos ect being held until late at night, but the Woodhouse Forum AND the Woodhouse Tennants and Residents Association don't seem to care or have not considered them.
I suppose the next step will be the Area Panel meeting ( whenever that is) and its hoped a strong objection to the proposals will be voiced

I live in Woodhouse and I haven't heard of this proposal. If they are going to build this centre on the big field in the centre of the Skelton Lane and Waterslack Road boundaries I know nothing about it. They are already proposing to build an Old Folks Village down Station Road and they already have a Community Centre not ten minutes walk from the Angel Pub on what used to be Victoria Road. This community centre isn't fully utilised and the tenants who live close by it think it is their private use only. Some bloody Community Centre!

Thanks for the information. I'll see if I can put my twopennyworth into the discussion.

This (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/council-meetings/area-panels/south-east-) gives dates of panel meetings.

Next one not until October. By then the horse may well and truly have left the stable.

Scenic check here (http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/weeklylist) every week to make sure that you do not miss the planning application going in.

If you go to the panel meeting and they do not take any notice of you then pursue it at the planning application stage.

You could get a petition up against the proposal. You can go door to door and also ask the doctor and dentist if you can put a copy in their surgeries. Another good place is in the chemists in Woodhouse.

When an application goes in go to the planning meeting. Ideally take a delegation ----- the more the better. You are allowed to speak now at planning meetings.

Don't forget the local press ----- radio and newspaper they always like a good local story.
