I planted some onion sets last Autumn and they are starting to flower. Should I leave them to flower or cut the flowers off.

Cut the flowers off. If you leave them to flower they'll devote their energies into making seed rather than swelling up to make larger onions.

Lostrider did you push your onions sets into the ground rather than bore a hole and pop them in? as normally onions sets will go to seed if you have that.Hel.xxx.

I made a hole the depth it said on the packet and covered them over. They haven't flowered yet but the buds are showing. The onions are TAYLORS Senshyu Yellow "over winter for early harvest". I planted fifty and only lost 3 to birds/mice. They are about 20" high but it says not to hartvest until the leaves start to die down. This mt first attempt at onions so am unsure when they are rady to pick. It does say use young growth as spring onions but I guess we are past that stage now.
