View Full Version : Corporation Street Closure
Once more the traffic around the lower end of the City centre is a nightmare.
Corporation Street has had to be closed due to the road collapsing by approx 2metres. Work is being carried out but the diverted traffic is causing horrendous journey times. Roll on rush hour.
Dont I know it! Just got caught in it, that was at 2pm!

Water Main Burst on Corporation Street
A major water main has burst on Corporation Street so the road has had to be closed by the Police.
A diversion is in operation using Bridge Street. The road will be closed all of today, and tonight. Please avoid the area if you can, and leave more time for your journey as traffic will be affected.
As per usual one incident will know doubt have knock on effects all over town and the city will be gridlock again.
I have to cross Brook Hill roundabout on my way home and you just know that the traffic wanting to go down Corporation Street will queue past West Bar, up the hill and over the roundabout at Brook Hill - bringing it to a standstill!
Thanks SCC for our wonderful road system.
Good Heavans !
What with bags having to be blown up and water mains bursting , Sheffield sounds as if it's in an awful mess.
How long will it be before temperatures as high as , say , 25 c. cause the tar to melt and bring things to a halt again ? Or the wind ? Or perhaps even leaves on the road , come Autumn ?
BoppinBruce 06-07-2005, 14:11 Why is Corporation Street closed today and why on earth cant they let you know earlier, in my case at Uni roundabout, so I could take alternative route?

...and thanks Yorkshire Water for maintaining the pipes so well.
Come to think of it, wasn't it YW contractors who dug through the pipe that caused the flood at Malin Bridge...
...and then dug through the gas pipe, that closed Rustlings Road...
...I'm starting to think YW might have something against Sheffield, are they based in Leeds (spits) or something?
:suspect:
methinks im going to be stuck in work for a while then!!!
Herbaliser 06-07-2005, 18:23 Didn't a water main burst on Corporation Street a year or two ago?
How long until it's down to one lane for a few months...
has it cleared yet  Im heading into town, not gonna bother if its heaving with traffic..
Corporation Street is now open but restricted to one lane. However get used to it as when they start work on the bypass, it will be down to one lane forever.
bu**er! I go that way to work every morning
