I remember her. She was really well spoken but chose to live on the street. I'm not sure what happened to her.
There was a lady who lived in the bottom house on Northfield Road who walked around with her scarf, coat and bags all day. She would talk to herself as she walked up and down Crookes. Used to scare us all as kids, dont know what happened to her tho, sorry.
Not sure if this is the same lady.
I remember the lady at the bottom of Northfield Rd.
My mum told us that she had been a policewoman at one time and that she had been jilted at the altar which caused her to have a breakdown.
I can remember passing by her and hearing her say 'Send him down, Your Honour' and similar things.
This is over 45 years past- so I would presume she died some time ago.
She was still 'knocking about' in the early 80's and I would guess she was probably in her 60's then if not older. She's not been there now for many years. I remember the house looked neglected with threads at the windows for curtains. The houses were modernised in 85/86 and think hers was left unmodernised. I can still visualise the old wooden framed windows and the garden looking so unkempt!
I don't remember the bag lady, but does anyone remember the old war veteren who sold matches on the Moor in the 50's/60's? He was blind.

Rumour has it that he was also picked up every night in a Bentley
