I moved into my house a couple of months ago and was told i would get heating put in straight away so i put off decorating and carpeting the house but i have since been told it's not going to be until 2010 and can't take it any more without flooring. I was wondering if i put laminate down and the council come to put in the central heating what do they do with the flooring, do they take it up tidy and put it back down when they're finished, how much of the floor will they need to take up, can laminate even be taken up 'neatly' once it's been put down? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well, as far as I know you can pull laminate up again providing it is only laid on the floor rather than glued or something. You'll probably have to replace some of the cork or whatever you use where the laminate meets the wall.

However; 2010? If the other properties next to you have had this work done over the last few years, this means you are on the 'backtrack' scheme. They'll come and do yours once they have finished all the others.

My flat was missed when they did the Decent Homes work on the rest of the block, so I have been asking about this backtrack scheme for the last year. Originally I was given the impression the scheme had to be finished by the end of 2010, so it would end at te same time as the last estate(s) were being worked upon.

Recently however, I was told that the scheme is now scheduled to start in 2010, and there is a good chance that properties in the backtrack scheme wont be updated either to as high a standard or as comprehensively as the homes originally done under Decent Homes.

Lack of funding apparently. I was advised that the Manor wouldn't be looked at until at least 2012, possibly as late as 2014.

So I wouldn't worry about your floor too much, chances are you'll be thinking of replacing it anyway by the time Kier come along..

if you lay laminate its generally the tenants responsibility to lift it for access.bear in mind though depends on which room is done and the type of house you live in.some property the pipes are surface so
the flooring is no problem or if its a bedroom we sometimes again come through a wall and surface mount the pipework ,

Well i spoke to the council this morning and they said the dates set for september, but that's the 3 different date i've had up to now so whos knows!! I asked about the flooring and they said it just gets ripped up and it's up to me to get it put back down so i'm thinkin carpets is my best bet! Thanks for the info anyways
