Hi everyone. Last night whilst waiting to get the train from Meadowhall to the city centre I saw a medium sized white dog with brown patches wandering near to the tracks. I managed to encourage him/her away from the tracks (even though I am scared of dogs all I could think of what was if it was my cat) but couldn't get close enough to catch him/her to look at his tags.

Just wondered if he/she belonged to anyone and if he/she is alright. He/She was limping quite a bit but as I was getting the last train I couldn't really stay to check more. I reported him/her to the 101 number but was told the RSPCA won't come out unless I could catch and contain him/her which I couldn't do.

Anyway, anyone with any information would be great. I've been wondering all day but lost my reference number to phone and ask what's happened.

The system just doesn't work does it?

if you've rung the police on 101, you should have been informed that it's the dog warden who deals with stray dogs these days, and nobody else... except they don't work 24/7

Please ring the council via the main switchboard to report this dog. If somebody has lost him/her, they should have rung the dog warden to report the loss, so at least they can be notified of a sighting if you do so

It really doesn't Strix.

I wasn't told that by 101 last night but have been today. Just got through to the warden's office and they can't tell me if anyone investigated my report (it was passed on by 101 straight away) but did say no-one would have checked at that time of night due to them not working then.

The warden didn't seem to want all that much information was me and sounded a bit annoyed I don't know the breed of dog but then I guess people who are scared of cats don't know their breeds either.

Going to try ringing Meadowhall and see if they can tell me anything and then try the transport police like 101 advised.

It's also worth having a look for some old threads here

I have a sneaking suspicion that there's a dog known to roam that area that nobody has ever been able to catch, so this could be the same one

I've spoken to Meadowhall and the transport police and they have no information but thankfully the lady with the transport police told me that they have had no reports of a dog being hit by a train so hopefully he/she went home and is alright.

I must admit it was scary approaching the dog but I just hope if ever my cat is in a dangerous place someone encourages her to walk away.

Thats exactly what I thought when I first read this thread. There was a huge long thread about that dog on here a while ago. If it is the same one the dog warden knows about it and doesn't seem to be prepared to do anything about it.
